Group Supervision, 2023

While my professional practice is focused on leadership, inclusion and organisational development, the practices and processes these are based on are primarily dialogic and integrative coaching psychology. These practices inform how I do leadership, inclusion and organisational development.
About 3 years ago, I decided to go for professional supervision accreditation with Association for Coaching (AC) as I had come to supervision sideways. (Similar to how I have come to many other things in my life)
Since then, I have facilitated year-long group supervision processes in which a small handful of us work together to unpack our practice, reflect together and develop skills, knowledge and ways of being in our professional practice.
In December, we will have two groups' final session of the year. It is both a joy to close the group, and I can feel the desire to continue them, as they are,
I know that for some,?supervision?can feel intimidating because there can be connotations of “being?supervised” and critiqued, which isn’t necessarily helpful and doesn’t foster the supportive environment required for an effective working alliance.
In our work together, the focus is on looking at our practices and thinking about what’s working, what our needs are, what our client’s needs are and how to work with the inherent challenges that emerge in working with people.
Often I have found that we as coaches can feel shame in our work, we can feel pressure always to get it right, and we can find ourselves doing our best but not being supported in processing what comes up in our work. Which then lingers and often integrates into defences of some sort or blindspots.
The focus for coaching is often so strongly on the coaches that we, as coaches, can miss the opportunity to be supported and untangle our expectations and fears from the process.
While many coaching associations recommend?supervision, it isn’t part of everyone’s training, so it can feel like "a nice to have" rather than "a need to have".

I have found that?group?supervision has become a must-have for so many participants.
But don’t just take my word for it; this is what other coaches say about it …
“What helps me most is learning through sharing or witnessing how dynamics play out with clients and then how to disentangle ourselves and create space relationally. ”?-?Group?Supervision?2020 participant.
“The main benefit for me to date is being braver with clients and using the client-coach dynamic as another source of data, which will ultimately benefit the client.”?-?Supervision?client 2020
“I felt so supported and comfortable immediately, which surprised me given I was new to the?group. I had lots of insights during the 2 hours, both from my work, the work of others and of course, from Sile. For my coaching practice, this is a really important thing for me to do to deepen and develop myself as a coach.”?-?Group?Supervision?2020 participant
“There is a value in knowing that the?group?itself is a safe container held over time where value increases as rapport/trust/safety is built. A lot of the value comes from knowing it's not loose or "drop-in".?-?Group?Supervision?participant 2022
“You come to realise that the challenges you secretly come up against are often being faced by other coaches - but rarely spoken about. The quality of value increases over time as the rapport is built, and it is as the?group?moves along the value is really felt from it being a closed?group.”-?Group?Supervision?participant 2022
"I get a lot out of?group?supervision. The small?group?process allows me to witness and be part of other people's learnings and processes. It, therefore, offers insights I would not get from 1:1 work. Then when I bring my own thing to work on, I get insight from a range of voices and opinions. That is very valuable. It's also engaging and enjoyable. I really like being in a?group?as it brings that sense of community and belonging. Lastly, if I ever am having a low-energy day, I can take a bit of a back seat but still be part of it. Highly recommend!"??Group?Supervision?participant 2022
