Group Objects in Synchro using 3D Filters

Use 3D Filters within Synchro for visualisation purposes and for the ease of Sorting/Assigning multiple Columns (or objects) to relevant Tasks.
Scenario: Working on a multi-story building, I want to group all columns per floor level (rather than selecting individual columns and assigning to the relevant Task).
Revit: If your columns (or objects) are already grouped together in Revit then you can ignore this Synchro Workflow, otherwise read on.....
In the following Workflow, I will be Grouping the columns on the 7th Floor of a multi-storey building to allow me to 'one-click' Assign to relevant Task.
First, select 7th floor structural columns in the 3D window individually, or by selecting columns under 3D Objects tree, on left-hand side in Synchro.
Once you have selected ALL the 7th floor individual columns, go to 3D> Create Filter from Selected.
Or you can Right-Click in the 3D window, select Filters > Create Filters from Selected (whilst columns selected, ie high-lighted purple).
Type Name for 3D Filter when dialogue box appears. Name: 7th Floor Columns > OK.
To check that you have Grouped all the columns, go to Navigator – 3D Filters (or 3D Sets for older Synchro Version).
Named Columns will appear under Navigator on the 3D Filters List.
Right-click on 7th Floor Columns, and pick: Select filtered 3D objects – You can now select ‘Grouped’ Columns per floor (at a single-click) and Assign to relevant Tasks.
Grouped Columns Assigned to Level 7 Task (below).
It will now be easier to isolate & amend columns in Synchro. Sometimes, I have had to isolate columns and split them per level in Synchro as they have been modelled incorrectly in Revit (ie. As a single piece column running through the entire building).
?ALTERNATIVE METHOD FOR GROUPING (USING RESOURCE WIZARD):
Select the individual columns (or objects) in the 3D window. Then Right-click - Select Resource Wizard (top),
Select: Assign to a new Resource. Then Next >
Name the new Resource (7th Floor Columns). Type: Material. Next >
Select: Assign to this Resource, don't build tree. Next > Finish.
Under Resources, 7th Floor Columns will appear under the Material Resources.
You can now select these columns (at a single-click). Then right-click in 3D window (whilst columns selected) and Assign to Selected Tasks in Gantt.......easy!

Big Thanks to Pawel Krecz for recommending '3D Visual Filters' during training.
Visual planning early and often...
8 年Thank you Iftikhar, good work as always. I hope you still remember parametric filtering - this is usually more powerful than filtering based on 'selection'. And encourages the use of proper-BIM (geometry + information). Upcoming new Synchro version will include some improvements around the Resource organisation - stay tuned for some news.
