Group Coaching vs. Mastermind

Which one is best for you and your business?

Do you know the difference?  

I really want to dive into this topic because I've recently had some time to settle into my own Mastermind as well as having created my Own Your Hustle Mastermind. Here is what I've noticed are the differences between Group Coaching programs and being in a Mastermind environment. 

Group Coaching

If you've ever been in a Group Coaching environment, you will know that there are certain parts of it that are awesome and then there are other parts of it where you feel like you’d rather go deeper into the certain topics. I know for me, I either wanted more advice, or specifics for my business or I was after more time with a coach. So here's where we go in terms of comparison. 

For Group Coaching, you're likely going to be growing a business.

For Group Coaching, you're likely going to be growing a business. You’re likely to be starting out, maybe you've been in business for six months to two to three years and you're trying to have consistent income. A Group Coaching environment will be amazing for you because it will also have an element of self-paced learning and you can absorb it in your own time. You can also think about how you're going to move the chessboard pieces more strategically for you and your business. 

Group Coaching definitely comes before a Mastermind

This style is perfect for those of you who are still working full time or maybe you're juggling a younger family and you've got other commitments. This is a place where you're looking to learn from others and a coach as well as bounce of your peers. From here, you can start to move towards a Mastermind environment. 

In these settings, your Coach is the hero of the program; they're likely doing 90% of the speaking, presenting and the communicating with you and helping you set up your strategies. It’s great to have a Coach sparing with you and encouraging you and inspiring you to keep moving forward with one step in front of another. What I love about Group Coaching is that it really opens up your knowledge around the industry.

Mastermind

Since joining my Mastermind, the very first one I've ever been in, I’m committed to the 12-months that this high-rolling group offers. This is about scaling your business as opposed to Group Coaching which was about growing your business.

The OYH Mastermind, for example, is attracting those who are already earning up to $5k months and are already growing their business. But, they're now in that next phase where they're ready to scale their business and invite more freedom and way more growth around diversification of their product. Maybe they are after hiring, scaling through ads, having more visibility on their business and really going all-in with it in a huge way. More than likely they may already be in Mastermind. 

It is unlikely that those joining would be coming straight from corporate-land into a Mastermind. This is because there is quite a big mindset shift to go through when you move from employee to entrepreneur. I'm not saying you can't do it. To be joining a Mastermind you’d already be consistently billing x-amount of dollars a month because you are already offering Private or Group Coaching. The reason being is because you're now at that stage from transitioning from looking to learn from others and a coach to now looking for strategic partners. 

Within these groups, it is all about presenting and collaborating within them. You will be strategically collaborating with those that are in the small Mastermind group because there's a resonance, there's something there which is of a similar path and we hold each other up. You don't find that as much in a Group Coaching program. 

In a Mastermind, its really about both giving knowledge, expertise, your opinion and your ideals on something as well as receiving all the knowledge and feedback. I love this about the Mastermind. This has been the best thing about being in my own group and having six other successful entrepreneurs that can have eyes on my business.

It becomes all about supporting each other in the most amazing way. As many of those in my group go through launches, for example, we're backing each other and we're giving updates in the group chat. So far, a lot of my programs and what I've offered, and even on a private capacity, has been very much me and you or me and a group, but the OYH Mastermind, you are going to give back just as much as I'm going to give back to you, just as much as you're going to give to each other.

Do you see the difference? 

It's a real huge shift of uplevelling and support. Another beautiful way to think about it is that a Mastermind is that it's a joining of minds. It becomes the thing that we're drawing from. It’s an energy source that we're going to where we can dive deep into strategy, spirituality and mindset. That's certainly the vision for the OYH Mastermind.

What to look out for in a Mastermind

• There will be very big groups and some very intimate groups
• Typically speaking, Masterminds are invite-only or by application-only. 
•  It is definitely a two-way conversation.
• It's a big commitment for you to work with a Coach for 12-months and you've got to really make sure you like your Coach or at least you resonate with them in some way. 
• Double-check what's inside of what's offered.
• Masterminds won't always have a retreat attached to them. So if you are someone who loves that idea of business mastery getaway where you really get to dive into your business and hang out with incredible people for two days, then keep a lookout for that.
• Also, some Masterminds don't have one to one time with the coach.
• Sometimes it is only offered as a group environment. I personally love it that I have access to my coach, but I also have access to all six other women.

Masterminds are definitely going to be a much, much higher investment than Group Coaching. Sometimes that can be a very scary big investment, but there's something in your intuition that tells you I am in this skin, in the game, gloves are off and I am in. Bring it on! That's the energy you should be feeling when you're ready to really go all-in, otherwise, it's not going to suit you.

I have to be honest here, it is not going to suit you if you're not ready to share. This is not for you if you’re someone who just likes to keep things super private and closed. This is not for you if you feel awkward in a group situation and you know that you're never ever going to be that one that talks in a group. This is not for you if you would rather not be pushed out of your comfort zone. 

So, I really, really do encourage you to look at your personality style, your characteristics, what behaviours you typically show and have demonstrated in other groups. Think about your skill level for listening to your intuition about your own growth mindset and about what needs to happen for you to hit these big numbers. 

So if you've been journaling or having on your vision board 20k months, 30k months, 40k months, 50k months, but you're not doing anything on the professional development front to push you out of your comfort zone, then think about how a Mastermind might fit into that for you.
