Groundwater Protection Field Day 2018
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak at the Southern Regional Groundwater Fall Educational Conference, which was held at the Environmental Resources Training Center (ERTC) at SIUE in Edwardsville. The group is the Southern Regional Groundwater Protection Planning Committee (SRGPCC) and is made up of individuals from the Illinois Counties of Madison, St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph.
This year's focus was on Careers in Environmental Protection. I spent a few minutes on what my career responsibilities are and talked a bit about my client base.
I had the chance to speak with the attendees about how St. Louis Composting accomplishes the diversion of green and food waste from landfills and how our finished products can improve soil quality and, in turn make for better performing landscape plantings.
We also spoke briefly about the benefits of rain gardens and bioswales as effective storm water mitigation devices and a great way to gently allow cleaned up storm water back into the local aquifers.
Thanks to John Wagner, Chairman of the SRGPPC and to the Field Day attendees for their time and a lot of great questions.
