??Grounding With Granny: Maintaining Relationships Through Storytelling??

Grounding With Granny is a newsletter to help you tell your story through healing. I share my stories with Granny which maintains our relationship, allows me to heal from her physical loss, and helps the reader tell their story. Not all Granny's stories are fun, sometimes tough lessons were taught. I am gonna tell one of my favorite Granny stories. Rear-ended With Granny?

Per usual, Granny's stories start off with time travel. The year is 2001 and I am a senior in high school driving Granny to the grocery store in my ‘88 Buick Regal Limited Edition. My front right headlight was repositioned upward because of an accident with the previous owner. My high school Fam5 Chris, Aaron, Daren, and Marcus would get in my car and sing! NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA NA-NA-NA-NA-NA Batman!!! Thank goodness social media was not around.

Granny was in town because I was awarded by the Madison Shriners Club for my selection by the Big 8 Conference as an All-City defensive lineman.?Once again Granny was impressed but not surprised. She expected greatness and showed up for it as well.

I came to the stop sign, between the daycare and the corporate building, for the right-hand turn on the off-ramp headed to Woodman's Grocery. I remember thinking how well-dressed Granny was. She had a Wayne Grusky, LA Kings shirt with gold earrings and sunglasses. Granny stayed fly head to toe, the star of the show, from Chicago. She was a true disciple of our Christian heavenly Father and there will be cursing in the next paragraph, you've been warned.

I hit my right-hand turn and had not made it to twenty miles an hour before I was rear-ended by an exiting?vehicle. It was at a relatively low velocity, no glass was broken and no one was injured. I was terrified. Granny asked, “Are you okay?” I responded quickly leaning over her, “I am fine Granny! How are you?” She unfastened her belt buckle and turned to look me in the eye. We had a private conversation. This is how I would spell it - #@@#%#%^*^%$##*&^$$##$%!!

I exchanged information with the older gentleman who rear-ended me and we were on our way to Woodmans.?We discussed why that turn was ill-advised and how to be a better defensive driver. I took the time and asked the questions necessary to learn my lessons in defensive driving. Thank you Granny for showing up and out in my life!

Granny said, “Keep praying, keep living” and when all else fails, remember “this too shall pass.”

Another great story. I'm curious about the private conversation Granny had with you ??. In all seriousness it is good to have somebody in your life who truly cares for you and straightens you out when you need it. When you know they care, it is easier to swallow the constructive feedback.
