Groundhog day
Recently we’ve been ill, and we think it’s Covid 19. Despite our best efforts, i.e. not going out of the house, we both seem to have been infected and if this is mild I really don’t want the next level. Anyway, we have staggered around the house, doing things when we can but mainly sleeping. In fact my major achievement yesterday was staying awake all morning. Between us we have managed to make drinks and eat at fairly regular intervals. But even that basic level of requirements has proved challenging.
One thing I have always known is that I ‘get into’ certain foods. So, jacket potato with a salad and some pesto sauce might become my favourite and I eat it every day for lunch. This might last a few days or a couple of weeks. It doesn’t follow a pattern and, once done, I move on to something else. That might be another ‘get into’ food or not.
The last two weeks have meant that food has had to fit into the following: easy to make and eat. Microwave for preference but one, or at a stretch, two pans. So, porridge for breakfast, soup and bread for lunch and then comes the tricky bit—the evening meal. Fortunately, I have got into the habit of batch cooking, so we have a couple of freezers filled with meals that only need a carbohydrate and some additional fresh vegetables.
Since I’m doing no exercise, getting off the couch feels like a workout, and I don’t want to gain weight, I’m still trying to manage and balance my food/exercise daily diary. What I have started to do is to manage my diary the day before, then I just have to eat what I’ve said I’ll eat. I have no idea what has happened with my weight—it’s way too much effort to weight myself—but my jimjams still feel the same, so that’s a plus.
Tomorrow, the day after, next week, the week after, life will get back to normal, i.e. I’ll feel able to get off the couch and will start to exercise again. Then I’ll get back to a varied diet but, for now, it’s the same foods every day. Now I’m going to sleep, I’ve been upright for a couple of hours.
