Groundbreaking on SMH’s Behavioral Health Pavilion

As part of its new Cornell Family Behavioral Health Pavilion, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System has begun construction on the building that will expand and centralize services for patients with mental and behavioral health challenges.

Target Corp. Chairman and CEO Brian Cornell made brief remarks at the ceremony and donated $ 10 million to support the pavilion’s overall approach to care, along with his wife Martha.

Sarasota Memorial’s $71 million Cornell Family Behavioral Health Pavilion will replace the Bayside Center for Behavioral Health, built in the 1970s, in the fall of 2023 with a new building that will enhance, expand, and centralize care for people with a mental and behavioral illness.

Three floors of the facility will have 82 patient rooms in four different inpatient units including geriatric, child and adolescent, adult, and acute care units.

An array of outpatient behavioral health programs and counseling services will be housed on the first floor, including an assessment center open 24 hours a day, intensive outpatient programs for youth and adults, and partial hospitalization programs for adults, as well as individual and group counseling.
