Groundbreaking to commence for Casino on June 21
In the Churchhill District, the groundbreaking of the Queen of Terre Haute Casino is scheduled for Tuesday, 11 am, June 21, at 4442 East Margaret Drive, where the casino will eventually be built. The date and timing of the project were announced officially to the public by Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer on last Friday.
A request for rezoning of approximately 49 acres located on East Margaret Drive just west of State Road 46 has been made by Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) to the Vigo County Area Planning Department. In order to begin the development process for the Queen of Terre Haute Casino Resort, the application seeks approval to rezone the property as a C3 Regional Commerce District. It is subject to the Indiana Gaming Commission’s approval where the Queen of Terre Haute will be developed by CDI
The members have been trying to set something up for about a month now,” Switzer said. In the beginning, we thought we would have to move the date to July, but then we decided we would go with June 21.
Before the groundbreaking of the casino even began Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer had already predicted a ceremony for celebration.
He also expressed that the day of the ceremony will be a grand day for everyone involved in the project and also people from different places from all over Western Indiana should be present during the groundbreaking ceremony.
