Groundbreaking ceremony for Walker’s Bluff Resort and Casino by Governor J.B. Pritzker

With local and state officials, Governor Pritzker broke ground for Walker’s Bluff Resort and Casino in Carterville on Wednesday, 8th November 2021. The hotel will be home to 116 rooms as well as a casino, convention center, restaurant, and other attractions.

1100 jobs will be created by the hotel’s construction. There will be 330 jobs at the resort when it opens. Southern Illinois will fill more than 80 percent of the new project’s positions with construction jobs.

After a 14-month construction period, the casino is expected to open in 2023. New state revenue generated by the expansion will finance projects across the state worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Key Comments on the Groundbreaking Ceremony

Slot machines, game tables, and an on-site hotel to the casino, according to Pritzker, will bring even more people to enjoy the beauty and hospitality of southern Illinois. Walker’s Bluff had long been a popular destination for tourists and business meetings in the region.

Michael Henry, Mayor of Carbondale, said the project would benefit the surrounding communities. According to Jackson County Board Chairman Keith Larkin, the project will make the region a destination.
