Ground Realities of Women in the police

Ground Realities of Women in the police

Sharing ground realities concerning rank and file for #womeninpolice.?

I happen to run into few senior women IPS officers. And got exploring..

Here is a Reality Check..

On the state of affairs as far as women in police are concerned.

It appears painful.?

*Seniors in IPS? are not getting the required exposure and the grooming to lead the force in the near future.?

*Women SIs not getting the same exposure? in the field. Hence are underutilised.?

*No shift system for them to balance their lives.?

*No ecosystem, rest room, child care support etc.?

*For lower hierarchy the jobs are a nightmare.?

*They also Lack home support, expectations have not changed from them.?

*Home care remains primarily their responsibility. Life is a drudgery.?

*Their husbands still want food cooked by their wives only?

*Tenure/ transfers changes dislocate their systems. They have no place to place their grievance.?

*No one asks them.?

*Toilets for them non existent?

*Suffer from Health issues due to not drinking enuf water because of absence of female toilets.?

*Control over their salaries still remains with husbands family.?

*Their children are the biggest sufferers without army like support systems.?

*People not getting the services of women cops in the manner they could have and was meant for.?

*They are more for law and order ‘demonstration’ shows.?

*Not for basic policing.?

*Men in the PS are obviously more stressed due to lack of Womens contribution. That extra burden falls on them.?

*Appointments and recruitment are without planning with ecosystems.?

*And without their career policies planning.?

*Lack of sensitivity in this service.?

Women in leadership are not in HeadQuarters Policy Making.?

( Barring Exceptions…) Challenge is in State Police.?

Delhi and few others may be exceptions.?

So much for these women in uniform in areas away from the capital of India.?

#womensday #womencops?

Point is we need to regularly assess objectively implementation of policies. And have mechanisms in place for periodic course correction.

None apparently exists as a system.?

Being a child of a lady police officer, have seen these challenges first hand. I am glad you are raising these concerns . While one side of the world is so diversity focused the other side of it needs to be balanced as well. Thanks for giving it a voice and a platform.

Hi mam. So very thoughtful of you. You are so so farsighted and practical… have loads of experience.. your innings speak volumes of hard work and stress you have faced in your career. You are a real role model for many who are at present working in the police academy. Salute to you mam.
