Congrats team ?? Staten Island University Hospital’s cardiology team, led by chair Dr. Mitchell Weinberg, was the first in the US to enroll a patient in the SPIRARE II clinical trial using new catheter technology to perform a mechanical thrombectomy in a patient with a large pulmonary embolism. The technology – the Vertex Pulmonary Embolectomy System by Jupiter Endovascular – is designed to allow physicians to safely and accurately reach areas of the vascular anatomy that are difficult to access using traditional methods, streamlining typically complex procedures. No fluoroscopy, no problem. Electrophysiologist Dr. Mark Abrams from Lenox Hill Hospital recently performed the hospital’s first zero fluoroscopy 4D Intracardiac Electrocardiography (ICE) with Watchman implant using Biosense Webster’s NuVision device. This 4D ICE technology allows for intraprocedural visualization of the left atrial appendage during left atrial appendage closure procedures. The goal is to limit complications, reduce lengths of stay and allow the procedure to be performed by a single operator.
