Ground & Air
Road repair work is in progress in our society. The other day, feeling some anomaly that I saw from our apartment balcony, I approached the masons working. They didn’t first acknowledge my presence. I continued to initiate the conversation with them and their lack response increased my irritation. In my zeal I went to the location where the anomaly I felt was. Fortunately, one of them followed and explained to me why things were done the way they were, against the anomaly that I felt. Although I found his explanation logical, my mind and my behavior continued to demonstrate differently. I moved away from the scene and realized my mistake of getting irritated and also what they were doing was right. As I thought more of this incident, I felt guilty about getting irritated. And soon a thought came to mind ‘those in authority don’t listen and those below don’t understand’. This is what happened to me in this incident. I should have left them to do what they were doing, the right thing on the ground. I was giving them my perspective from what I saw from top (air). It was completely different at ground level. How many times do we see or experience this in our work life as well. At every level this seems/would be happening. We have heard/hear helicopter view – big politicians surveying flooded areas. But what has happened on the ground, how it has impacted and whom very difficult to understand from what ones sees from Helicopter.
Helicopter view or any view from atop is fine as far as it is in the perspective of suggestion or improvement and not question or instruction. As what is happening on ground is very different and those on the ground know it better and what/how to do. Isn’t it?
