Grootdrink Intermediate School joins The Tiger Brands in-school breakfast programme
The Tiger Brands Foundation
The Tiger Brands Foundation was established for broad based community impact for the benefit of non-fee paying schools.
Since its inception, Karoshoek Solar One has been committed to supporting education in the local community. They are a 100-megawatt concentrated solar power plant station situated in the east of Upington, a small town in the Northern Cape.?
Karoshoek Solar One, has made it possible for Grootdrink Intermediate School to be the 8th school in the Northern Cape Region to benefit from The Tiger Brands Foundation in-school breakfast programme. Through this programme, learners are served with a hot and nutritious breakfast on every school day.
The addition of Grootdrink Intermediate School to The Tiger Brands Foundation programme is testament to the success of the in-school breakfast programme and its ability to positively impact the lives of children in communities across South Africa. “It’s commonly said, breakfast is the most crucial meal of the day and knowing that these learners would be able to start their day with a nutritious meal is a great privilege, we are excited to be part of the programme” – said Mr Kopps Principal of Grootdrink Intermediate School.?
There has been a notable change in attendance among the learners. Many students are coming to school earlier in the morning and the breakfast Programme is part of the motivation. They know they can come to school and enjoy a nutritious meal at the start of their day, and this has been reason enough for them to attend regularly. On behalf of the school, parents, learners and SGB members, SGB chairperson Mr Eddie Matthys expressed his sincere gratitude to all participants, Karoshoek Solar One, The Tiger Brands Foundation, the regional coordinator, Mrs. Henriette Andreas, and their ZFM District Office for ensuring that this Programme was implemented at their school.?
