#GROMEETSNORDICS (2): Skive

The (Province) Provincie Groningen and (Municipality) Gemeente Groningen took the initiative to jointly organize two innovation missions in 2022 to Scandinavia. Last week we traveled to Denmark and Norway. This is part 2 of our brief travel report.

PART 2: SKIVE

Day 2 of the Groningen Innovation Mission to Denmark and Norway started with an early morning visit to GreenLab in Skive, a unique, green and circular industrial park. Dutch Ambassador to Denmark Nienke Trooster joined our delegation for today, starting with a presentation and guided tour to see this interesting industry park. Here sustainable energy is generated and supplied to businesses located there, transformed into heat, electro fuels and other green products. Jakob Hebsgaard Mogensen welcomed our delegation at GreenLab with an interesting presentation about the green & circular energy park. Generating their own supply of 100% green energy with 80MW wind and solar energy and demonstrating sector integration in practice: industry coupled with Power to X through SymbiosisNet, their intelligent grid of energy and data that will let their companies share their surplus energy. A strong approach and appeal to all of us to create a power shift away from fossil fuels towards renewables.

After the presentation and learning more about this interesting approach and SymbiosisNet we went outside for a guided tour to see the green and circular industry park in operation. GreenLab is a technology enabler, "the perfect host" for technology companies, providing infrastructure and services that reduce time-to-market, like a green transition facilitator. GreenLab in Skive acts as a national Danish research facility, a test zone for integrated energy and open innovation. Not just for pilot projects but also for scaling up to mid-size installations. Interesting to learn was the origin and ownership structure with private funding by larger, family owned, companies.
