Grit And Resiliency Are Key To Navigating TECH

Today's cup of tea is dedicated to celebrating one year of being listed as a Forbes 30 under 30 honoree in enterprise technology and going into detail about the power of possessing grit and resiliency in every aspect of your career, and also tips on navigating the industry after reaching new heights that many people only dream to experience.

Today's cup of tea is dedicated to young professionals who oftentimes doubt themselves mainly at the times they are on a break to making a true impact. Also, today's lessons are meant for individuals who are uncertain about their journeys and what their tech career will turn into long term, especially with the unease of the industry in its present state.

Discovery And Learning How To Elevate

It took me a year to accept my honoree of making Forbes under 30. When you put your head down and focus on execution, success, and developing a tunnel mindset for so long it can be astonishing when you realize you have hit a major milestone. Especially being a black woman in tech. As a woman, we are trained to put our heads down and never be boastful and as a minority in tech, we are taught to work twice as hard.

Let's change this mindset...

How about we pledge to be genuially DOPE in all we do and the world learns how to celebrate the things that make us unique. PERIOD.

This year I have learned success has no deadline or timeline but rather it's an infinite journey that you must learn how to ride with grace. Acceptance and belief in who you are are extremely important and possessing a strong mind and high EQ is necessary as you embark on new levels within your career. It never gets easy, the more you accomplish the more you search for what is next until you get to a place where you truly enjoy this journey that is unique to every individual.

Tips On Navigating And Reaching New Heights

This year I learned 5 key components of how to truly navigate the tech industry:

1. The more brilliant you are, be ready to put your big girl pant's on because many people will target you and refuse to give you your flowers simply because they can't understand why you and not them. My advice - Take the misguided compliment, accept who you are, clap for yourself, and carry on.
2. Your network will become smaller but it will become much more valuable. My advice - learn how to let things and people go early that don't serve you as soon as possible, focus on reaching new heights, and develop impactful relationships with those who get you, celebrate, and want to win with you.
3. Learn to let things go quickly and outline your own personal OKRs- Treat yourself like a business. My advice, your brain can only hold so many things at once and as a high-performing human, you have to be strategic about what to execute. Choose fewer items to execute, but make sure they are valuable and set you up for the long run.
4. Be kind to yourself, your worse critique is usually the person in the mirror. My advice - give yourself affirmations every day, and believe in your next steps as if it has already happened, belief and confidence go hand and hand.
5. Enjoy the ride and find your tribe because it only gets better when you can embrace a new chapter, find joy in uncertainty, and find pleasure in learning. My advice- never be the smartest person in the room, how will you grow if this is the case?

Grit, Recilency, and the ability to be teachable is the best gift you can give yourself as you navigate your career in tech.
