Grit: The Hidden Ingredient for Success

In the fast-paced of business, sports, and leadership, talent and luck often steal the spotlight. But behind every lasting success is something far more powerful: #GRIT. Dan Campbell, coach of the Detroit Lions, captures this perfectly when he says, “Grit is when you have the ability to overcome adversity in any situation. The ability to push through it, mentally, physically, to overcome.”
Grit isn't about talent or chance. It’s about endurance—the commitment to resilience in the face of adversity. In my role as a sales leader, I’ve seen this play out time and again, whether in retail training, sales enablement, or leadership. But it’s not just in business that grit shows its importance; it's a core value in my role as a university soccer coach.
This year, my soccer team made grit one of our core values. And as we navigate a slower start to our season then we wanted and expected, it’s become even more evident how critical this mindset is. We knew challenges were coming, but now, it's time to lean into that value and embrace the hard work it will take to overcome our early setbacks.
Grit means choosing resilience. It’s about pushing through physical and mental fatigue, focusing on solutions, and refusing to give up when things get tough. Whether on the field, or in the boardroom, it’s the ability to keep going when others might give up that leads to long-term success.

So how do we bring GRIT to life? By committing to growth and learning from every challenge. Adversity isn’t a roadblock—it’s an opportunity to build character, refine skills, and ultimately push ourselves to new heights.
Grit is the fuel that powers resilience. It’s what drives my team to keep fighting for success, and it’s what enables leaders, athletes, and business professionals to turn challenges into stepping stones.
If we can all embrace grit, we’ll find ourselves capable of far more than we ever imagined.
