"Grief and resilience live together." #HyattFamily

Today, after two months on furlough, I am incredibly grateful to be able to return to work full time. However, this feeling is overshadowed by heart-breaking stories of passionate, trusted and hard-working friends and colleagues of the #HyattFamily who have been let go. Tenures ranging from months to decades, each having left a profound impact on us personally as well as who we are as a company today.
When someone leaves a team or a company, you usually throw a going-away party, get them a gift, celebrate their next adventure and find some way to recognise the indelible contribution they've made to the organisation. But in these times, as people quietly exit the company, unable to say goodbyes, uncertain of what their future holds - how do you genuinely honour so many individuals in an authentic and meaningful way? I may not have the answer to this question right now, but for whatever it's worth I want each person to know that you are and will always be, a part of the #HyattFamily.
In a recent email from one of my admired leaders announcing his departure, he reminded us of a quote from Michelle Obama, "Grief and resilience live together" and in these unprecedented times, no words ring more true.
Our industry might be down now, but we're definitely not out. If you've been recently laid off and we've worked together in the past, please let me know how I can help.
Can I connect you with anyone in my network? Can I write you a LinkedIn recommendation? Can I share resources where you can get financial or mental health support? Can I be an eye over your resume/CV or even just an ear to listen?
I'm here.
For those in my network, please consider filling any open positions with passionate and dedicated people that have lost their jobs.
To the #HyattFamily staying on, I'm humbled yet excited, with a renewed sense of purpose and passion, ready to navigate through this recovery period with you. For our path forward and with a much leaner team, I'm eager to carry on fulfilling our purpose of care for our guests and colleagues while continuing to champion for an unwavering commitment to inclusion and diversity.

4 年Wonderfully said Liam. I return this week after 85 days and am sad to not be joined by so many. We will recover and we can make a difference. #InThisTogether #Recovery

4 年Liam, thank you for your excellently written words. You accurately expressed my sentiments. It’s hard to figure out where to belong after been a member of the Hyatt family for over 25 years and now trying to figure out my next move.
