Grief is like a spring flower...

Grief is like a spring flower...

??Grief is like a Spring Flower ??

As we were out walking the dogs at 6:30 each morning this past weekend, I was in complete awe of the beauty of nature all around us.

?? The daffodils that had bloomed and were already coming to an end.

?? The colourful tulips whose buds were starting to open (I LOVE tulips!).

?? The white blossoms in the trees lining our street that went from barely there to almost full bloom within 24 hours.

It was SO beautiful ??

As the sun crept over the horizon and the birds sang their morning songs, it struck me just how much the coming of Spring is like our grief journeys.

All of nature that was coming alive around me had just survived a cold, dark winter in hibernation, alone and curled in around itself for protection. ?

As the sun shone longer and the days got warmer, the flowers felt safer and supported to come out of hiding and bloom again.

When grief strikes, we tend to curl inwards, putting a protective energy shield up around us so that no more pain can get in. ?We hibernate in our own darkness, struggling each day to make it through. ?We go into our own numb winter season.

But as time passes and the intensity of our sorrow wanes slightly, cracks of light in the form of hope are able to come in and we begin to remove some of our protective energy. ?We start to feel the warmth of the light and to feel a bit safer to be back in the world again, taking off our heavy winter coat of grief and replacing it with a lighter windbreaker. ?We stretch out our arms and turn our faces to the sun to feel its warmth. ?We might even smile.

Just like the flowers that start to bloom in the Spring, our grief slowly emerges from the darkness and welcomes the light.

And as we move forward in our grief journeys, we come back to life and start to bloom again, knowing that we have survived the darkest of our winters.

Our grief roots are still there, they are still a part of us - they always will be. ?And these roots help to make us stronger and more resilient. ?

They allow us to bloom like a flower in the Spring ??

We all have our winter seasons. ?Know that you will also have your Spring.

We all deserve to bloom, no matter what grief we have suffered.

And remember...YOU are worth it!
