After the introduction of grid codes, this eighth and last article?will discuss power electronics solutions for power quality problems.

The availability of electric power with high quality is crucial for the development of the modern society. Some generators, consumers and prosumers are satisfied with the quality of the power provided, but some others are more demanding. To avoid the huge losses related to power quality problems, generators, consumers and prosumers must take action to prevent these problems. Selection of less sensitive equipment can play an important role. When even the most robust equipment is affected, then other measures must be taken, such as installation of power electronics solutions, distributed generation or reconfiguration of the electric power system.

Modern power electronics solutions like power electronics-based compensation devices and power electronics-based energy storage devices can provide many of the power quality improvement capabilities that facilities require nowadays.
