Grid Application Solutions are Essential for Grid Stability During Energy Transition

To reduce carbon emissions, the transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources has become a priority. Along with a conversion to renewables, efforts are under way to increase reliance on hydrogen and LNG. Additionally, we’re working to implement carbon capture and storage (CCS). As all of this takes place, maintaining grid stability is crucial.
In the United States, there is increasing concern over grid stability. Power outages have become more frequent and tend to last longer. Causes include an aging infrastructure and the increased severity of storms brought on by climate change. There is some urgency to address the grid’s shortcomings, especially as the world becomes more dependent on power as a result of digitalization and technologies such as AI. Power outages—especially those lasting multiple days—shut down businesses, cause food spoilage, and make it harder to fuel cars because of gas station closures.
The shift to renewables emphasizes the need for stable, interconnected grids. And Innomotics can play a key role with our grid application solutions. Specifically, we deliver medium voltage converters that help deliver clean energy to island grids, bring stability to grids in remote areas, and interconnect grids in different frequencies. For instance, the converter has been deployed in situations where 25 Hz equipment has to connect to a grid with a 60Hz current.
The Innomotics Perfect Harmony SH150 medium voltage converter (former SINAMICS SH150) is ideal for a variety of power conversion needs, helping to ensure grid stability during the energy transition. With its support for adjustable currents for short-circuit clearing and reducing voltage dips by reactive power, it helps future-proof industrial grids and stabilize the overall grid.
