Grenfell Tower: disenchantment and anger springs from sadness and fear

I was brought up a couple of miles away from Grenfell Tower. I played football at least once a week at the Westway Centre under the tower's shadow for more years than my knees care to remember. My local football club QPR is just a mile away.

Both sites have been transformed into temporary relief centres. There is a strong communal feel in this part of west London. I've now moved away from the area but the tragedy that has befallen its denizens has hit me hard.

What was first sorrow has now turned to anger. How could this have happened? Our country has been buffeted by a number of tragedies this year and this opinion article by Steve Busfield sums up how many are feeling in the UK: the blackened prism of Grenfell Tower has brought disenchantment at our elected elite into sharp focus.

Britain is most certainly not 'reeling'. ? But we are furious with those in power. You can feel it out there.
