GRE/GMAT for Engineers: The Math skill Boon or Bane?

GRE/GMAT for Engineers: The Math skill Boon or Bane?

As an ENGINEER If you’re already equipped with strong quantitative skills, it can be advantageous.

Let’s create a tailored GMAT or GRE preparation plan for engineers to help you excel in all sections of the exam:

Start with a Diagnostic Test: Regardless of your academic background, begin by taking a diagnostic test. This step is crucial because it helps you assess your familiarity with the concepts tested in the GMAT or GRE. Your engineering background may give you an edge in the quantitative reasoning section, but it’s essential to identify your strengths and weaknesses across all sections. Before you plunge into your prep journey do this exercise.

Strengthen Your Basics: Its prudent to be a self critique and to say here is a topic in Math I need to revisit. That helps. Revisit the fundamental concepts in the quantitative sections. You may have to skim through the topics beforehand and ensure that you hit the top one percentile score in this section. This is non-negotiable. Both GRE and GMAT requires you to be very strong in concepts hence don't leave them in a limbo.

Focus on Verbal Reasoning: As an engineer, you might find the quantitative section more comfortable due to your mathematical training, hence you can allocate more time to improve your verbal reasoning skills. Practice reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and non-math Data insight in GMAT or the Reading comprehension, Text completion and Sentence equivalence in GRE.

Remember what you need: A Balanced score, you cant afford to miss a top university or the program of your choice due to a low Verbal score. I have come across many engineers who have cracked the GRE/GMAT verbal with a 99 percentile just by putting that extra bit.

Review and Analyze: Once you are through with the sessions, the journey is only half done. Take as many Tests as you can & regularly review your progress. Analyze your mock test scores and identify areas for improvement. Understand why you made specific mistakes and learn from them.

Sectional Tests: Try to take as many sectional tests in every area as possible and analyze them in depth. The one who hits the 99th percentile is the one who keeps no stone unturned.

Always remember, success in the GMAT or GRE involves a holistic approach with a BALANCED Score. Strengthen your verbal skills, manage time effectively, and stay committed to achieving your goals.
