Greg 2.0 (or maybe 3.0 ... perhaps straight to 4.0)

After a 30 year career with first Canada Trust and then TD, I’ll be leaving TD at the end of this year—I’m officially retiring from TD. Full disclosure, I’m doing so as a result of my role being eliminated by a re-organization. While leaving TD at this point in my working life represents an unanticipated plot twist (and is a shade sad for me), we part amicably. I am proud of the impact I’ve had in my time at TD and am grateful for a terrific 30 year tour—I’ll be a proud TD Alumn.

Since joining TD (Canada Trust) at the tender age of 18, I’ve been able to work in more than 20 different roles across Canada and the US with thousands of awesome people. Over the last 30 years, I’ve made life-long friends and have had the opportunity to grow from a front line CSR (Teller) into a seasoned leader and executive. I’ve had the opportunity to learn leadership skills from my teams (often through their ‘gentle coaching’), from peers who I admire a great deal and from my many leaders over the years.

There have certainly been a few 'downs’, but many, many more 'ups' along the way to be sure. More importantly, I’ve known that when I got home tired at the end of a long day, that I could feel good about being tired given the fact that we were doing work that mattered.

In the short-term, I’m going to take a brief sabbatical and get caught up on some of my personal goals (sleep, fitness, drop-off/pick-up, some chores I’ve been dodging, reading, etc.) and then, early in the new year, I’m going to figure out Greg 2.0—or maybe I’ll skip 2.0 and go straight to 3.0 or 4.0 … who knows!

So while I’m a shade sad to be leaving TD (an extraordinary organization that I’m immensely proud to have been a part of for 30+ years), I’m also grateful, excited and just a little bit nervous … all in, feels like a pretty good place to be in.

Cheers ... GQ
