GREENING THE SPACETECH INDUSTRY

According to the European Space Agency - ESA , the global space economy could reach EUR 1 Trln by 2040. Current in-space propulsion systems are not only expensive and complex but also pose severe environmental risks due to their reliance on highly toxic propellants.

Germany-based ISPTech , a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center (DLR), is dedicated to developing propulsion systems that significantly reduce harmful emissions. Their technology utilizes electric propulsion mechanisms that ionize a non-toxic propellant, accelerating the ions to generate thrust. This approach enhances efficiency while drastically minimizing environmental impact by eliminating the reliance on traditional, polluting propellants.

New Zealand-based Dawn Aerospace focuses on sustainable propulsion and reusable space vehicles. Their technology features rocket engines powered by nitrous oxide and propylene, which are less harmful to the environment than traditional fuels.
