Greenhouse gas emissions and their effects on society

Humans are wreaking havoc on the environment through deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. Our greed grows worse and worse with each passing day and ultimately causes the most heinous kinds of destruction on our home planet.

It has been alleged that the trend in global warming that has been present since the mid-20th century is being driven by human activity. Naturally, greenhouse gases are essential for the survival of all living things, but recent studies indicate that human activity is the cause of the increased densities of these gases in the atmosphere.

The presence of greenhouse gases keeps the earth warm, as we all know for a fact, but the main issue is that as fossil fuels are burned more frequently and other human activities increase, the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is growing to an unsustainable level.

Had it occurred to you that the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by the combustion of fossil fuels forms a quilt-like sheath around the Earth, caging a greater portion of the sun’s heat in our atmosphere? Well, at the outset, our lives on Earth exist because of the energy produced by the sun. However, the concentrations of some of the naturally present greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are rising due to human activity.

Let’s begin by looking at what greenhouse gases are and how they influence climate patterns.

What are greenhouse gases?

Any gas that can absorb heat energy emitted from the Earth’s surface and reradiate it to the Earth’s crust, thereby enhancing the greenhouse effect, is referred to as a greenhouse. Some monitoring reports have found different types of gases to be present in the Earth’s atmosphere. These include methane (CH4), nitrogen oxide (N2O), halocarbons, and SF6 molecular hydrogen (H2).

China, which is regarded as the world’s second-largest CO2 emitter, is also one of the largest importers of oil, which is the cause of the gigantic boost in CO2 that is emitted through the use of motor vehicles. Aside from agricultural runoff and water shortages, China’s carbon-intensive industries have also been linked to other ecological concerns.

Annual greenhouse gas emissions by sector:

  • Transportation:?The transportation sector emits the most greenhouse gases, primarily from fossil-fueled vehicles, resulting in toxic air pollution.

  • Land Use: Agriculture:?This industry contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, which are mainly caused by logging and agriculture.

  • Production of electricity:?Coal combustion for electricity production is the main cause of greenhouse gas emissions globally.

So now that we’ve identified the sectors that produce a significant amount of greenhouse gases, it is time to discuss how these gases impact the environment.

  • The glaciers and icecaps are melting to a great extent and liquefying quicker than usual as a result of the rise in global temperature.

  • As the melted water mixes with ocean water, the sea level rises.

  • Temperature and weather variations are affecting the propagation of diseases that can damage vegetation and food resources.

  • To survive the shifts in the primary weather patterns brought on by the gradual rise in temperatures, several wild animals will be forced to migrate.

How to deal with these greenhouse gas effects:

  • Relying on smoke-free vehicles will significantly help cut down on pollution.

  • Reducing, reusing, and recycling techniques aid in energy conservation and resource preservation.

  • Embracing the circular economy approach

  • A good way to cut emissions from industry is to employ components that aren’t derived from fossil fuels and don’t emit greenhouse gases.

In short, every person has an obligation to safeguard the ecosystem and abstain from deeds that jeopardize the atmosphere. It is imperative that we protect our environment; otherwise, humanity’s existence would become incredibly hard.

Great note. It would be good to include the science behind why heat is trapped, climate sceptics then understand the detail
