Year-to-date commercial vehicle output at 14-year high
UK commercial vehicle output has risen 5.8% on 2023 with 78,805 units produced, making the year to date the best performance in 14 years, according to SMMT data.
Volumes are also up a massive 72.3% on 2019 levels – driven by exports, up 12.0%, with 52,389 units shipped overseas. Output for the domestic market, however, fell -4.7% to 26,416 units.
This is despite August commercial vehicle manufacturing falling -10.0% in August, with 6,044 units rolled out of UK factories.

Asahi UK welcomes electric truck to London delivery fleet
Asahi UK has welcomed a Volvo FE Electric 4x2 rigid into its London delivery fleet.
Operating from Fuller’s Griffin Brewery, the new electric truck will supplying pubs across the capital with a diverse range of beers, ales and ciders. ?
Built on a 5,250 mm wheelbase, Asahi UK’s electric rigid has been specified with three batteries, offering an approximate driving range of up to 142 miles, providing ample capacity to complete the necessary day-to-day deliveries.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council adds e-cargo bikes to fleet
Hammersmith & Fulham Council has added eight new electric cargo bikes to its waste collection and street cleansing fleet.

The fleet, run by Veolia, now includes eight cargo bikes, eight electric vans, and three street cleansing cage vehicles, as well as one electric Refuse Collection Vehicle which will be used for the new garden waste collection service.
Cargo bikes will improve service efficiencies as they are able to reach narrower routes such as the Thames Pathway, aiding the team to empty public litter bins and collect fly-tipped waste across the borough.

Places for London selects Fastned as EV charging partner
Places for London - Transport for London's (TfL) property company - has selected Fastned as its preferred partner for its new joint venture?to help develop several new ultra-rapid charging hubs across its estate.
The joint venture aims to deliver new dedicated off-street urban charging hubs that will be able to simultaneously charge multiple vehicles at high speeds.
Places for London is requesting approval from TfL’s Land and Property Committee to form the joint venture at the earliest opportunity, which is expected to occur later this year, with the first site delivered in 2026.

West of England’s £59m bus electrification project begins
First West of England has started work on two multi-million pound projects to electrify bus depots in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.
Construction equipment has begun arriving at the Weston-super-Mare depot ahead of a £14.9million scheme just off the A370, and the arrival of 24 new electric buses on the Weston network next year.
In addition, £44 million is being invested in electrifying the operator’s Hengrove depot in Bristol alongside launching 74 electric buses on the city’s network.
