The Greener Pastures: Uncovering the Lost Migrants

Most migrants looking for a better life wish to get out of poverty. And since then, Europe, America, and other countries have become prosperous destinations in their souls. Unconcerned about the implications of their "by any means necessary" to meet destiny.?

Bangambiki Habyarimana, a community worker and author of Pearls of Eternity, asked a man who took a death boat to Europe across the treacherous waters of the Mediterranean from Libya. “Why are you taking this boat?” He said, “I am already dead.” “This is my coffin; If I succeed and get to the other side, I get a new life. If I fail, I lose nothing. I remain what I am now: Dead.”

This article is an adaptation of?Thomas Naadi's BBC documentary?about the world's deadliest migrating route,?Lampedusa Island. At where African migrants risk their lives. And unbothered about legal consequences and death caused by hunger, climate conditions, pirate robbery, and wild animals. How many letters and articles would prevent losing many more persons to this desperation?

Migration is a personal choice. Individual thirst for it depends on the environment and its effect. I wish no harsh realities were demanding desperate measures; we might not lose this many people. Many say you must evaluate your options, but it's invisible in the libido of someone in search of a better life. With this, the parent would sell their kidney for their kids to sail through the Mediterranean. To ensure they make it to the promised land by any means necessary. By whom is this land promised fortune and prosperity?

I have traveled and seen how migrants lived abroad, the joy and struggles different from the narrative travel agents or community friends told to get themselves on this paradox. In 2008, a friend traveled to Canada using the?“Oluwoleism”?(Using someone’s valid passport and visa to travel) approach, where you have to go by stopover flight; a straight flight will expose the whole cover, which means jail for anyone caught.?

With his elder sister succeeding with this process, it was safer. The only disadvantage is getting jailed and being left miserable. He got deported on getting to Egypt. Eventually, he fell sick because this cost him much money. One thing to know is that this process costs money and can cut your life short.

?

Greener pastures stole our hearts decades ago. To have thought that only white man's land could provide a decent life. Mismanagement of governance and poverty, on the other hand, increased mass migration in Africa. Many case studies show our disregard for mental education. The impediment is a psychological struggle. Everything hinders decision-making when?poverty? is visible.

This research beats my understanding. Only individuals can account for their decision to escape. There was a success story about one migrant who made it back home in Ghana whose missing wallet led Thomas to him. And hear his side of the story.

?

Migration is not a crime. How people migrate lies the problem. Even with the law taking its course, no one cares about dying through the process. It’s like an unleashed war. There’s a constant need for awareness about desperate migration. Many take advantage of the vulnerable to make money. Someone once informed me that traveling to Italy by road or sea would cost at least $5,000, and Stockholm broke me.

How are the funds gathered? Is there a syndicate? I know individuals will go to any length to do whatever.?The zeal comes from a thirst for guaranteed success. Nothing can stop this focused mileage; 65% of these funds come from savings, loans, and help from families and neighbors?while 35% comes from extortion and syndicates—all these to?make it.?Risking one's life over nothing is vague. To have a knack for misinformation before exhausting your energy is more shocking. It speaks to our poor educational system. Keeping it going is nothing without direction.

Many migration syndicates coerce people, such as the?Oluwole? Patrons, a gang of agents that create fake travel documents.?These agents make migration complicated and inexpensive. Exploitation is a gross issue at large, even with people knowing. They don’t care as long as it takes them out of poverty. A way out will always be devised, but what if there’s none??

?

Everyone criticizes hunger with hatred. Leaving it in dismay as to what offense did it commit. We're all baffled and tired by the crucifix of suffering.?Does migration out of the continent solve any human problems? Yes! to an extent. Does it solve individual challenges??Our personal preferences for how we want to live our existence differ.

However, most migration out of Africa is motivated by a desire to escape this long decade of discomfort. Even if you are desperate to fly, walk, or swim. You should know what is ahead of you. In uncovering the ordeal of lost migrants, the peculiarity for passionate migrants to invest in the?proper information instead of consuming the escape absorption is a priority.

?

Thomas Naadi took my breath away?with this documentary. These?are uninformed individuals who are more concerned about?escaping?than whatever.?From another angle, they are not uninformed by choice. I have lived in this desperate shoe before and still am, only that I am more informed now.?

?

Conclusion

In conclusion, how do we reduce the number of people to this desperation? Many have always directed the responsibility to the government to pull some weight in by advancing employment and creating an enabling environment.

Also, as people, we must grace awareness within the rural and urban localities and educate our people on how to improve in life without pulling a desperate card to just about anything. Nothing is a sin until irresponsibility is committed to it. Our blood sweeps our hearts.

Welcome back, Babatunde Baruwa, and what a wonderful write-up you have here. I can relate to the issues raised in the texts because I have been there before. In 2017/2028, I made an attempt to escape out of Nigeria. I did escape but the ugly experience in the so-called greener pastures will live with me forever.
