Greenburgh Town Board honors Maria Regina HS on 65th anniversary

TOWN OF GREENBURGH HONORS MARIA REGINA HIGH SCHOOL

ON ITS 65TH ANNIVERSARY

HARTSDALE, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 10, 2023) The Town of Greenburgh honored Maria Regina High School at its February 8 Board meeting to mark the renowned all-girls Catholic high school’s 65th anniversary.

The ceremony, which was broadcast live on the Town of Greenburgh government cable channels (Cablevision Channel 76 and Verizon Channel 35) began with a brief video of comments by Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, who visited the school last December to celebrate the school’s milestone anniversary.

Town Supervisor Paul Feiner then presented a Town Proclamation to Anna Parra, President and Maria Carozza-Mc-Caffrey (Class of ’99), Principal.?Also on hand to celebrate the school were Council members Ellen Hendrickx, Gina Jackson, Ken Jones and Francis Sheehan.

The Proclamation, which was read by Feiner, declared:

“The Town of Greenburgh raises it voice in tribute to Maria Regina High School on the occasion of its 65th anniversary and expresses its deep appreciation to the administration, faculty, staff and proud alumnae for all their efforts in contributing to the success of the school’s mission of shaping young women to achieve academic excellence, empowered to become compassionate leaders and enriched to live a life of charity, truth and service to others.”

Among the other Maria Regina notable achievements and significant contributions that the Proclamation cited were:

• Since its beginning, Maria Regina has been a distinguished leader in the education of young women, providing a rigorous learning environment with strong social and moral guidance in a faith-based tradition.

?

• Approximately 9,000 young women, many of whom have hailed from the Town of Greenburgh communities, have graduated from Maria Regina and have gone on to post-secondary success at college and in their careers in diverse fields

·???????As a result of their active participation and generous contributions in Maria Regina High School’s extensive community service program, students and their families have long helped meet the needs of the homeless and other essential worthy causes in the Town of Greenburgh.

• The Town of Greenburgh has proudly supported Maria Regina’s proposal to build a new, state-of-the-art Athletic Turf Field which got underway in August 2022 with a groundbreaking ceremony that Town Supervisor Paul Feiner attended.

●??????A new generation of leadership has been highly effective in advancing Maria Regina’s agenda to assure the school remains at the cutting edge of fostering the academic and spiritual development of each student in the years ahead. At the helm have been?President Anna E. Parra and?Principal Maria R. Carozza-McCaffrey.

●??????Cardinal Dolan visited Maria Regina on December 14, 2022 to mark the school’s 65th anniversary by celebrating Mass with the entire school community and blessing the new ADA-compliant, state-of-the-art, Eco-Conscious Environmental and Life Sciences Lab.

Speaking on behalf of the entire Maria Regina family, Ms. Parra thanked and expressed “deepest appreciation to the Town Board for honoring our school” and invited the Board members to tour the school’s iconic campus, where among several highlights of their visit,” they will see the Proclamation which will be displayed with honor.”
