About the Green Roof
As architects, we often fancy the idea of bringing a slice of nature atop buildings. You might think, 'Ah, what's the big deal? Just throw some soil up there, plant some greenery, and call it a day, right?' Well, not quite, as anyone familiar with 'biotech' style architecture knows. A seemingly simple green roof project turns into an architectural puzzle, since any greenery requires an additional layer of plumbing system considerations.
Diving into this project, we had to deal with an array of rounded, undulating elements, each stubbornly asymmetrical. In addition, it was necessary to take into account the location of the premises under the roof? to weave in a hidden network of the drainage while adhering to the code and design standards.
The funnels had to be designed so that they perform their function optimally both in landscaped areas and on paved paths.
After many brainstorming sessions and coffee cups left cold, the puzzle was pieced together. Our green roof and its tiled counterparts now stand ready to face the skies, their drainage systems a silent testament to our behind-the-scenes ballet.
