Green Recovery Nigeria [GRN] Programme
The forest programme has its focus on conserving and recovering Nigeria’s forest cover which is being depleted at an alarming rate.?
As a response to this, Nigerian Conservation Foundation [NCF] deliberately developed an Initiative – Green Recovery Nigeria [GRN], as the flagship programme of the Foundation.
The goal of GRN is to help increase forest cover from its current state of about 4-7% to 25% by 2047.
Sustainable Forest Management [SFM] is a major component of the GRN Initiative. This is ensuring the proper and sustainable use of forest resources for the present and future generations.?
This approach considers innovation solutions partnering with corporate organizations, local communities and farmers.?
NCF conducted Community Based REDD+ projects in some communities in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, where community folks were organized into User Groups and Community Bye-Laws strengthened.?
NCF was also working closely with corporate organization utilizing forest resources to adhere to strict standards that will promote SFM. Standards such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil [RSPO].

Kwara State's government proposed a plan to plant 2.5 million trees by 2047, aiming to combat deforestation inorder to fight loss of trees in the state, the project is to involve about 100 communities in collaboration with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation.?
The initiative began with planting 15,000 seedlings in three communities within the state.
Kwara State Government has said it plans in partnership with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation[NCF] to plant 2.5 million trees by 2047. This is in line to combat deforestation in the state.
Speaking at a workshop in commemoration to mark 2022 International Day of Forests in Ilorin, the Climate Change lead of the NCF, Solomon Adefolu, said about 100 communities would be involved in the scheme.?
The NCF lead, who lamented the level of forest degradation in the country, said that the foundation, in collaboration with the state government, had embarked on the planting of over 15,000 tree seedlings in three communities; Latayi, Agboro and Koro in the Pategi Local Government Area of the state.
