The green journey: the advantages of a hybrid generator
During conversations with our clients in the construction and infrastructure sector, we are experiencing more awareness about their role in mitigating CO2 and NOx emissions. It’s great to see that awareness and ambition are being converted into clear actions. This has become a must since the ruling of the State Council regarding nitrogen. This court ruling immediately impacts various construction projects which are going to be delayed without the proper. In turn, this emphasises the need for a zero-emission construction site.
A zero-emission construction site is still quite a challenge, due to the lack of grid connections as well as capacity constraints on the electricity network. The use of heavy machinery requires a continuously available power source. Therefore, choose a hybrid generator that constantly delivers power and meets all requirements concerning sustainability. In this blog, I will share my ideas about the possibilities and advantages of such a mobile energy solution.
Saving on operational expenses with a hybrid generator
Many infra and construction companies are augmenting the sustainability of materials and machinery fleets in order to realize zero-emission ambitions. But they can’t do it all by themselves. They need the right partners to support them. My favourite practical example is the alternative to the conventional generator; a hybrid generator. This is a cost-saving solution based on hybrid technology. Such a sustainable and mobile solution doesn’t only protect the environment, but it also maximizes fuel efficiency by up to 95%!
'Conventional, polluting generators are outdated'
For both light and heavy-duty construction works
Today’s reality is that we don’t only need, but we also want to protect the environment. In addition, there is no more space for polluting, old-school generators. Our hybrid generators offer a solution to achieve this. From light-duty systems with 5kVA to all-round, heavy-duty systems with 100-200kVA and 400kWh of battery storage. In addition to the HVO-100 | Gas 2 Liquid fuel engine, the 100kVA unit has 20 solar panels and a 90-kWh built-in battery system. When the battery systems end up below a set minimum, the green generator kicks in and ramps up the battery without any delay in the power supply. Did you know this way of working saves you up to € 200.000 in fuel costs and reduces CO2 by 300.000 kilograms?

Easy to use and little noise pollution
In sum, our hybrid system is like a hybrid car with added solar panels. Both systems maximize fuel efficiency and decrease the operational cost of fuel while reducing CO2. Let’s dig a little deeper. The battery pack is partially powered by solar panels. Additionally, you can connect external solar panels to the system. When battery power is insufficient, the green backup generator quickly recharges the batteries. A big difference with conventional generators, which are always on to supply power 24/7. Therefore, the majority of energy is wasted, even when power demand is low. In addition, the generator load is relatively low, at the expense of optimum fuel efficiency as well as the quality of the generator. A hybrid generator is low-noise, user-friendly, and can be deployed within 90 seconds. And believe me, you surely experience the difference in sound when you stand next to it.
No brainer
Today’s construction yard should have hybrid generators when additional capacity is required or when you want to mitigate the risk of power supply. Investments that directly result in CO2 reduction while saving a lot of fuel form a win-win situation, in my opinion. However, I have noticed that this way of thinking has not yet been fully accepted or understood in the construction sector in The Netherlands. ?
Let’s keep it simple, you have a rental period of 42 weeks and 50 hours of operating time. The DGA model-45 uses approximately 3.900 liters of fuel, 12.000KG of CO2 and 4.300KG of NOx. The conventional 65kVA generator is good for approximately 18.000 liters of fuel, 58.000KG of CO2 and 20.000 KG of NOx. Use HVO-100 instead, and our DGA model-45 emits only 1.100KG of CO2 and 400kg of NOx. So, if your aim is to reduce CO2 and NOx emissions, using a hybrid generator is a no brainer.
