Green Initiatives: A Commitment to Sustainability
Playdale Playgrounds Ltd
Designers, manufacturers and installers of exciting outdoor playground and sports equipment.
In today's world, environmental consciousness is on the rise, and consumers are eager to support businesses that priorities eco-friendly practices. At Playdale, we're dedicated to finding innovative solutions for waste management, all while reducing our carbon footprint. Here's a closer look at just some of the sustainable practices that make us proud to be an environmentally responsible company.
Heating & Lighting at Playdale HQ
We believe that a warm office is a happy office, especially during the colder months. That's why we've adopted a biomass heating system that's fueled by wood pellets. With the capacity to store around 16 tonnes of wood pellets at any given time, it's equivalent to 1524 Toadstool Seats! Wood pellets are a renewable source of energy, and the growth of more biomass to fuel such boilers helps offset the carbon dioxide released during combustion. As part of our future plans, we're exploring the use of sawdust, a by-product of our timber operations, to further enhance the sustainability of our biomass boiler system.
Moreover, over 70% of Playdale HQ and our Global Distribution Centre is illuminated by LED lights. These lights are up to 80% more energy-efficient than traditional lighting options like fluorescent tubes. We encourage our staff to be environmentally conscious by reminding them to turn off lights when not in use.
Timber & Plastic Recycling
In the past, we used to send approximately 150 tonnes of waste compacted grade laminate (CGL) to landfills. CGL is composed of compressed wood and resin, making it exceptionally durable and resistant to wear, vandalism, and chemicals. Thanks to our efforts, we've found a way to recycle our CGL. This, coupled with recycling waste timber generated from our operations, has allowed us to achieve a significant milestone - we now send zero waste to landfills.

We're committed to continuously improving our waste management practices, and plastic recycling is no exception. Currently, our plastic waste is collected by our Facilities Manager and sent for recycling. Even larger plastic waste, like damaged slides, is recycled and repurposed into new plastic products. We generate roughly 60kg of plastic waste per month, and we're exploring the use of plastic baling machines as part of our comprehensive waste management strategy. These machines will help reduce our carbon footprint by decreasing the frequency of waste collection.
Ongoing Environmental Commitment
At Playdale, we are unwavering in our commitment to minimizing the negative impact of our business on the natural environment. We've implemented an Environmental Management System that complies with ISO14001 standards. This system considers the activities of both our supply chain and subcontractors, ensuring we use sustainable FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved sources of timber while striving to minimize waste production and fuel consumption.
From simple actions like turning off lights to our extensive recycling programs, we understand the importance of reducing our carbon footprint. We remain dedicated to developing a greener business and will continue our journey towards a more sustainable future.
By taking these eco-friendly steps, Playdale is not just playing a part in protecting the environment but leading the way towards a more sustainable and responsible future. We invite you to join us in our mission to create a better, greener world. Together, we can make a significant impact on our planet.
