GREEN ENERGY OPTION PROGRAM

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is often referred to as clean energy. This energy is collected from resources that are naturally replenished by renewable resources ( RE ) such as wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. These RE resources are replenished naturally, quickly, and efficiently versus fossil fuels that are being consumed far more rapidly than they are being?restored. RE resources are believed to be environmentally friendly, safe, and definitely more sustainable.

Government Approved

Consumers are given the choice to control the cost of power through the mandated law from Republic Act No. 9136 -- The Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 are the Retail Competition and Open Acess (RCOA) and the Renewable Energy Act of 2008 ( RE Act of 2008 ).

Renewable Energy Act of 2008 ( RE Act of 2008 ) is a declared policy by the state to increase the utilization of renewable energy by institutionalizing the development of national and local capabilities in the RE System.

3 Main Objectives of RE Act of 2008

  1. The acceleration of RE sources through fiscal and non-fiscal to institutionalized the use of renewable systems.
  2. To achieve energy reliance on the dependency on natural gas and fossil fuels.
  3. More importantly to mitigate climate changes by reduction of harmful emissions.

Having the option to choose RE is a step towards the RE plan target of 35% share of power generation by 2030.

GEOP ( Green Energy Option Program ) was offered through RE Act of 2008 under Section 9. This basically provides end-users (with at least an average of 100kW peak demand) the option to choose renewable resources as their source of electricity. This will promote the utilization of indigenous, new, and renewable resources in power generation.

Consumers may qualify under GEOP by hitting an average peak demand of 100 kW and above for the past 12 months. For facilities operating under 12 months may also participate in GEOP. Considering you have an estimated 300 kW load profiling for the next 12 months. You also need to have 3 consecutive months with at least 100 kW peak demand.

Policy Issuances :
GEOP RULES - DC2018-07-0019
GEOP OPERATING PERMIT GUIDELINES - DC2020-04-009
