Green Chemistry Pioneer Theme Rains Puts the Focus on Ethics and Sustainability
Long before it became ‘trendy’ and ‘on point’, Theme Rains knew that sustainability and integrity were the only way to go in business – and in life.
After studying Law at university, there was a time when she believed that would be her career path.
But out of the blue, whilst travelling, she had a profound experience.
“I had a moment of deep realisation that there is an awakening happening in humanity,” she said.
“I felt a strong calling to be of service to this shift in consciousness, which resonated in my heart more powerfully than any other purpose.
“I believe that to heal a world in crisis, we must begin with ourselves, and so my journey into the Healing Arts unfolded from there.”
Success and Fulfilment
Clearly, founding Synthesis Organics in 2006 was not just a smart business decision. It was so much more. And the philosophy behind that decision not only continues to guide Theme’s life, but also helps women around the globe to find success and fulfilment. See side bar.
“Synthesis Organics is a true extension of my life’s journey through the Healing Arts,” Theme said.
“I believe in high-performance skincare that draws on the regenerative power of nature – plants and minerals that have evolved over millennia with remarkable healing properties.
“But it goes deeper; our products incorporate bioenergetic principles that harmonise our body, mind, and spirit, enhancing the natural life-force that underpins health and longevity.
“This is why our skincare goes beyond traditional beauty – it helps balance the daily stresses that often deplete us, supporting our radiant, conscious beauty.”
Better Business Results
Theme is living proof that focusing on ethics and integrity will ultimately produce better business results.
“From the start, sustainability, ethics, and organic integrity were non-negotiable for me.
“I wanted my products to be pure, energetically aligned, and free from anything that might diminish their quality or life-force energy.
“Since our products are energy imbued?, it’s essential that every element is as conscious and clean as possible. This elevated quality is what makes them so effective in nurturing skin health and radiance.
“I also believe in third-party organic certification as the best way to give peace of mind to our customers, ensuring every ingredient is traced to its source and free from harmful chemicals.”
Breaking New Ground
This dedication to providing outstanding products and customer service has paid off. Synthesis Organics has created over 100 high-performance skincare and aromatherapy products – and has more than 70,000 customers on its database.
“Less than three years ago, we were operating out of a garage with one employee. Now we have 15 and are operating out of our custom-built eco-factory,” Theme said.
“Our revenue has increased by almost 1000% since we launched Notox and entered the e-commerce world.”
However, the journey has not been without risk or hard work, as Theme was breaking new ground in the skincare industry.
Considered a pioneer in green chemistry, Theme studied extensively, attending symposiums around the world, to create formulations that were not only pure but truly potent and effective.
“I’m proud to have been part of the movement towards green chemistry. When I first started formulating, I felt limited by conventional cosmetic chemistry and knew there had to be a better way.”
Part of that journey was a 14-year apprenticeship with a master healer.
“I felt limited by conventional cosmetic chemistry and knew there had to be a better way.”
Life Changing Journey
“That was a life-changing journey that I feel immensely grateful for. It was an apprenticeship in heart-opening, consciousness-expanding practices that continue to shape my life.
“The Synthesis energy imbuement? is part of this legacy I was entrusted with, and I am still realising its full healing potential. This experience is something I will likely spend my lifetime integrating and honouring.”
Initially, Theme made products for fellow practitioners and therapists. But as her reputation spread, doctors, healers, and other wellness experts endorsed the products.
A chance meeting at a yoga festival in 2015 led to a pitch with Peninsula Hot Springs, who chose Synthesis Organics for their spa in 2016.
“Their high demand turned my passion project into a fully-fledged skincare business almost overnight,” said Theme.
Along the way, Theme met her partner, Christopher, and along came son, Ziggy.
Already using the products – and measuring their elevated life-force energy through his studies in Biogeometry? – Christopher became an integral part of the business.
The Rise of Mumpreneurs
An expert in regenerative agriculture, Christopher managed the build of their world-class, $460,000 skincare eco-factory in the Byron Bay hinterland, “ensuring our land, water, and workspace are harmonised.”
When Ziggy was born, Theme joined a growing group of Australian business owners, affectionately labelled ‘Mumpreneurs’.
“I hope that Australia continues to support mumpreneurs as they balance family and business, contributing to a vibrant and nurturing economy.”
“I love the concept of a ‘Mumpreneur.’ It celebrates the strength of mothers who are growing a business and raising children simultaneously,” she said.
“While the business is always part of my life, it offers flexibility, allowing me to spend meaningful time with my son and build a legacy he can be proud of.
“I hope that Australia continues to support mumpreneurs as they balance family and business, contributing to a vibrant and nurturing economy.”
The success of Synthesis Organics has been driven not only by quality products but by its highly committed team. Theme encourages excellence and empowers her team to take ownership of their roles.
“I’ve grown Synthesis Organics from a solo endeavour to a team-based business where everyone shares a collective vision. Staying true to my values and building a team that aligns with those values is key to our success.”
Theme hopes that sustainability will become a key part of Australian business.
Recently, Synthesis Organics was launched into the luxury Capella Sydney Hotel and the award-winning Four Seasons Sayan in Bali.
“As awareness grows, I believe we’re recognising that our actions impact the planet, animals, and each other. This expanded consciousness naturally leads to more responsible choices, where businesses aim to create a positive impact.”
