Greece To Tender 1GW Renewable Energy In September

Greece's Energy Regulator RAE is preparing to hold a new joint?tender on September 5 for?PV and wind power, which aims to allocate 1GW of solar capacity, with a focus on systems above 1MW, and wind power projects above 60kW. Bidders must submit?applications by August 8, and applicants will be informed by August 25 whether they meet the auction criteria and are eligible to bid. The tender stipulates that each technology needs to secure at least 30% of the awarded capacity. The starting bid prices for PV and wind systems are €54 ($55)/MWh and €63/MWh respectively. Winners of the solar projects will need to be connected to the grid within 30 months, while?that of wind projects will need to be?completed within 36 months.

In addition, Greece plans to hold four more tenders in the fourth quarter of this year, mainly for solar, wind and storage systems of various sizes. Ypen listed the tenders for the fourth quarter of this year.

600MW of combined PV and wind tenders

200MW for PV and wind projects with energy storage

100MW of solar tenders for small projects under 1MW

The tender has boosted PV deployment in Greece by adding 897MW of new PV capacity in 2021, up 102% from 2020, according to renewable energy operator DAPEEP. The Greek Parliament recently approved a new bill calling for a further reduction in the average permitting time for large renewable energy projects from about five years to just 14 months, which will further stimulate PV project development. New PV?installed capacity in Greece?is expected to be around 1GW this year.
