According to data published by electricity transmission system operator ADMIE, Greece has launched 1.5 GW of installed capacity in renewable energy projects in just five months last year, namely from June to November 2023.
?
The data shows that RES facilities in operation stood at 12.2 GW in early November 2023, compared to 10.65 GW in early June same year.
?
The November figure included 5.06 GW in wind farms and 6.55 GW in solar power plants. In the five months between June and November 2023, solar capacity recorded an increase of 1.28 GW, while wind capacity saw a much modest increase of 261 MW. The remaining 35 MW is accounted for biogas/biomass power plants, small hydropower plants and CHP installations.
?
RES facilities with obtained connection terms totaled 15.5 GW in November 2023, which, combined with 12.2 GW in RES facilities already operating, results in an overall RES portfolio capacity of 27.7 GW. This figure exceeds the country’s 2030 target for installed RES capacity, set at 23.5 GW in the revised National Energy and Climate Plan.
