Most of us believe the loss of individual liberty is a destination. Although it is right in its literal terms, nonetheless, in reality, once we give away our unique personal authority, that is just the beginning of giving away even more.

Once a person loses individuality, so is he open to suggestions and the influencer’s justifications, as pathetic it may seem. In other words, under selfless circumstances, a person is vulnerable to acts of many unwarranted stewardships.

Sense of Stewardship in the face of the Loss of Individuality invites Tyranny

It is almost fitting; our limited collective and so-called democratic sphere majority is the leader of our destiny. Even firming our particular connectivity won’t help us prevail, yet it will sink my make us a big enough target for the more prominent entities. Furthermore, if deemed to hold the community ideals, everyone within the communal sphere must take up the sense of stewardship. That is the breaking point of a person’s control over self and thus embracing that demon of acceptance for perpetual dictatorship even though it is labeled democratic structure.

As it is also referred to as the “Tyranny of The Masses,” the majority rule’s tyranny is an intrinsic flaw of a system where majority rule is the “Law of The Land.” The masses’ tyranny nurtures the majority of an electorate pursuing its objectives solely at the expense of minority sects — such a system results in arm-twisting of minorities and individuals.

It is speculated that tyranny awareness occurs in scenarios that may involve a kind of contortion of democracy preconditions. That is done the thing that we see clearly before our eyes in our political and election system. For instance, when a federation’s centralized power makes a decision that is ideally meant to be a local matter, breaking with the obligation to the subsidiarity principle, they take up actions such as centralization of power henceforth, abandonment of rationality.

Typically, in a tyranny of the masses, the concurrent majority and supermajority take over the rules.

Then, they recon: “Abandon rationality by ruling upon numbers, not upon rightness or excellence.”

While doing that, they use fictitious rationale to promote a sense of stewardship amongst its citizens.

The fear of “majority tyranny” is not a new one!

According to Britannica, citizens of the 17th century and later were utterly concerned about overtaking the minority and individuals’ liberty by the mainstream. For that reason, supporters of the Republican government acted against the sweeping indictment of majority governments as the epitome of tyrannical and intolerable systems. But it seemed that the fear of factions was eased and presumably vacated when subsequently cream of the crop in various democratic states came up with a new set of barriers to direct mainstream rules, which wouldn’t be varying from the fundamental democratic ideologies. However, today’s argument would be the loopholes within the system, such as the personification of corporations “supported by the majority” that provide shelter to specific factions.

Even under the most rigorous checks and balances, it seems to me that the masses’ tyranny feeds on the sense of responsibility of its constituents, insight of populist norms, and the glorification of their common cause.

Glorification is beyond mere Spiritual Commitment but partakes comparable Intentions

In a traditional sense, Glorification helps chosen ones be liberated from their sins before going to Heaven. For a religion, that is the ultimate glory a person may have. Although every faith and belief embraces its own set of glorifying avenues, all share one typical value: martyrdom at the expense of self-identity. We can now fit the taste of glorification into various scenarios. For instance, instead of committing to religious belief, let’s commit to country, brotherhood, or fraternity. Creating some form of union is often glorifying but to various degrees.

The moralistic division maneuverings that we use when estimating violations committed by our communities often focus on dehumanizing the victims. For instance, we take military actions against other countries under the notion of active humanitarian deeds. The glorification of the group within us is identified as the primary determinant of unreasonable and unethical actions, which, in turn, affect behavioral intentions related to the punishment of perpetrators and reparations to martyrs. Furthermore, such a moral detachment through collective thinking is prompted by a need to prevent negative sentiments emergence. For instance, indignity and culpability are experienced by the individuals because of their reciprocity with the faction.

Psychology of Glorification is about self-reward at the mercy of the Mainstream

The moral of glorification lies within the notion of disengagement from self and the diversion from the Golden Rule idea. Those engaged in idealizing an action dictated by their group’s collective decisions feel a sense of liberation and peace, even though such gratification may be fictitious. The impetus of reward is so strong that the follower would give into the martyrdom. Human being relishes glorifying his action and dictates that on to others. Glory’s act almost always encompasses a trait, idea, or activity; this is the inception of fascism.

Take-Home Message

We live in an era when collective consciousness and unity are the putative ideals. Within the communal realm, we often feel committed to the authority of the majority. And we exalt those authorities only, finding ourselves bound by the collective cause. And that is the tyranny of all.

“The greatest tyranny committed; is when an authority glorifies human loss under the notion of patriotism or martyrdom, thus suppressing the tenancy of the soul “ — Adam Tabriz, MD.
