I have not watched the Inauguration - didn't really want to or feel like doing so.
I was reflecting what is the greatest fear I have for the next 4 years and there is a lot to chose from no doubt.
The thing that does not seem to get much coverage of the horrors to come is free and fair elections in 2026 and 2028.
I know elections are probably the farthest from my mind at the moment with all that faces us in the next 100 days leave aside two years.
But the greatest threat is that in the two years at state level, at province level, everything is done to make voting even harder and to keep people home by discouraging voting and with the full support of a Justice Department who will drive such democracy destroying measures.
Remember all the talk before this election of election deniers in swing states, now think of that for future elections on steroids.
If gerrymandering was bad till now, it will be far worse going forward.
Purging of voters from voting rolls will multiply many fold.

What will be left in 2026 and 2028 ?
And that is all before the impact of dark money pouring in even more from tech bros...
Hitler was able to dismantle democracy very quickly in 53 days, the GOP fascists do not need to rush they have two years to spread this cancer deep.
Hitler was nothing without Himmler and Goebbels and Goering and Sepp Dietrich and also the Wehrmacht Generals and the SS Deaths head battalions and the concentration camp guards and the 1930a tech bros equivalent who sponsored him...
The 47th is the same he is nothing without all the henchmen of the GOP, all the election deniers, all the Evangelical Fundamentalists, the billionaire tech bros - but all together they are a democracy destroying force.
So will any semblance of free and fair elections be left in 2026 ?
And that is far from being the only worry ...

1 个月With cluelessness, arrogance and greed being their binding glues, and not ideology, Mr. Partha Nag, I doubt they can rise to what you postulate. I see boredom setting on these buffoonery quicker than sunset. In these age in time, this era, anyone determined to reenact the 1930s of the Weimar Republic is as foolish as it gets. The world's too fractured and fragmented, and it will only lead to an unprecedented level of civil unrests where nothing will function. This is a movement least about ideology but most about preservation of the illusion/delusion of privilege, economic theft and misplaced arrogation of power.
