The Greatest Decision I Ever Made In My Life

The Greatest Decision I Ever Made In My Life

It was November of 2016. I took a nap in the middle of the day. I woke up with that weird feeling of being half asleep and half awake. I woke up with this urge that if I don't get up right now I'm literally going to be stuck for the rest of my life.

This was a weird stage in my life where I was slowly transitioning from unconscious existence riddled with anxiety, obesity, no purpose to getting more focused, healthy and living the truth of my life but I wasn't taking it seriously yet.

This one of the first moments where I drew the line in the sand and realized most people always put things off and procrastinate even about very serious potential life decisions.

Walking to Target

I put my shoes on and just walked outside. Walking always gives me clarity on what’s going on inside my mind. I started walking towards Target in Boston and came up with the idea that I need to start writing these things down and put them in my environment if I'm going to take this seriously so I can see them every day.

On my way to Target, looking back at it now I had a series of epiphanies about my life and what I had to do now and take responsibility in my own hands. I walked into Target and bought a whiteboard so I could write down what I wanted to do including my goals, priorities and any quotes that really stood out to me. I walk over to the journal aisle and every single one is gone except for one standing alone on the shelf that read on the cover “ideas become things”.

Yea, I'm pretty lucky this just happened to be a “coincidence” but I'm forever grateful.

Like everything in life, it's never a single moment that changes your life. An amazing decision I am so grateful for today but couldn't see it then took place the following year. I was on a run in the summer and trying to think of solutions to my existing problems. Like my business not really working or various issues that were coming up with my physical and mental health and had a moment of what I am doing here?

Starting a Podcast

In that split moment, I came up with the idea to start a podcast so I can systematically surround myself with people who know more than me and the name popped up in my head “Humans 2.0!” I had seen the extreme transformation in myself just a couple years prior and realized if I could do it anybody could renew themselves inside out.

This was the very beginning of my story of outer professional success that many of you know me as a default today. TEDx speaker, Forbes featured, on an Amazon Prime TV docuseries, speaking with the world’s most intelligent and impacted individuals. Obviously, it started very slow and I didn’t even take it seriously at first.

I almost quit at the end of that year because my show was getting maybe 10-20 listens to an episode and most of those were probably from me or my friends that I annoyingly bugged :) Today my show is sitting at over 10 million listens and episodes I put out today get more downloads in 1 hour than the entire existence of the beginning starting episodes combined.

Taking It Seriously (More Important)

“It’s easy to start a podcast. But, it’s hard to keep it going and do it well.”
- Seth Godin (Ep. 150)

December 31st, at the end of the year I had started my podcast I realized I wasn’t taking it seriously and in turn, I was getting no results. I made a commitment to myself to begin learning more from content online, experimentation and people who know what they are talking about with the results to prove it.

I began using LinkedIn heavily as a content distribution channel.

I began reaching out to more notable guests, which in turn distinguished my podcast above the rest.

I began spending a bit of money to promote the show and purchase other marketing tools for a limited time.

So what happened?

I began really developing my own personal brand. Media and other influential people began quoting me alongside the top folks in my industry, bringing me credibility and even more influence. People began to take a look at me and check out my business, bringing me more inbound clients on a regular basis without even having to reach out.

I was featured in Forbes and even quoted in an Inc Magazine article next to Elon Musk...

Eventually, Amazon Prime reached out and invited me to be on their documentary series called The Social Movement, landed a TEDx talk, and the list goes on and on and on!

Now, I'm in the middle of writing a book and already have thousands of people on my email list and following that I will then distribute to make it a best-selling book...

BTW, if you are interested in the book is “Screw Being Shy” feel free to visit my website to sign up for more updates by putting your email!

Now, I'm helping entrepreneurs, small business owners, executives, coaches, and other conscious leaders help scale their own mission via a podcast and podcast hosts that already run a show but want to take it to the next level.
