The Greatest Country on Earth

I consistently hear chest-beating Americans state that “America is the greatest country on Earth.” Nice and patriotic but blatantly untrue. Let’s list some of the reasons why the USA is not the greatest country on Earth:
- Trump is your president.
- Trump was elected AFTER people knew of his character.
- The USA is a democracy but is not democratic.
- The increase in working poor.
- The failure of the public education system.
- The inaccessibility of the health system to the middle class and below.
- The inaccessibility of the legal system to the middle class and below.
- The increasing gap between the haves and the have nots.
- The loss of USA’s moral high ground.
- The loss of USA’s influence around the world.
- The ability of industry to influence legislation to satisfy its self-interest.
- The absolute immorality, unethical and hypocritical governance of the GOP.
- The shameful treatment of minorities.
- The shameful treatment (exoneration) by the president of convicted criminals.
- The pathological and perpetual lying by the White House.
- The refusal by the GOP to fix the Trump problem under the 25th Amendment.
- The refusal by the GOP-dominated Senate to accept the overwhelming evidence of Trump’s impeachment.
- …and then there are the guns …..
To be great, a society needs to nurture, grow and protect ALL its citizens in a legal, moral, equal and ethical manner. It needs to care for those who can’t care for themselves. It needs to educate and provide health care as required to those that require it regardless of who they are, what their ethnicity is, what colour they are or where they are.
So, don’t beat your chest and trumpet your greatness, because while all of these ailments are present, you’re not at all great. Try starting the road to greatness by dealing with the first point.

And both groups have their own theories and perceptions of why the country is bad or good. The contrarian provides similar points you mentioned and the supporters talk about top companies, advanced technologies, its power on the world and how it can influence countries and governments. I myself have daily debate on the same matter. He is pro-american ...
