The Greatest "Black Box Conundrum": Scientific Inquiry Vs Consciousness
Philosopher David Chalmers refers to this enigma as "hard problem of consciousness" which revolves around elucidating the mechanisms by which physical processes in the brain give rise to subjective experiences, such as perceptions, sensations and thoughts.Even though we can study the brain's structure and activity with tools like brain scans, we still don't fully understand how these physical processes lead to our subjective experiences. Science primarily deals with the physical aspects of reality, such as matter, energy, and the laws of physics.Consciousness, on the other hand, concerns the phenomenal or experiential aspects of reality like the "what it is like" to experience something which transcends purely physical explanations. This makes it difficult to develop scientific theories that fully account for the qualitative aspects of consciousness as the subjective experience it encompasses poses challenges that extend beyond empirical observation.Despite their apparent differences, these two realms intersect in the quest to unravel the mysteries of existence and our personal interpretation within it.
