The greatest benefit to trying new things and how it can help your franchise

So, it's been a little while since I've written a newsletter. ??

Sorry, if you've been constantly looking at your LinkedIn notifications everyday and been disappointed at the lack of newsletter from me. (I highly doubt that's any of you!)

I have been pretty busy though getting my business in line and figuring out exactly what I should focus on.

You see, I've been spreading myself a bit thin trying to be everything to everyone, in a bid to grow my business. Something that I'm sure many of you can relate to.

In my personal life I find massive enjoyment in trying new things and the picture above is of me trying something that I hope I never have to do again.

I was filming at one of Tezlom's (a Healthcare Recruitment franchise) sites to understand more about their business and share my review of the brand.

I was offered to jump into a bed lift, that is used to train their agency workers, to see what it's like. Of course I said yes and was severely disappointed when I appeared to be too heavy for the lift!

I didn't think I was that heavy!

Also, despite the smiles, I really didn't enjoy imagining what it would be like, if I was a real patient needing this lift to move. I'm so glad I could go back to my normal way of getting out of the bed.

Anyway, that experience gave me a better understanding of how well trained the Tezlom team are and a deeper understanding of the challenges others face.

When I reflect on this a few weeks later, I realise that the "have a go attitude" I seem to have is a real plus, as no matter the outcome, I learn something.

This last week or so, I've had a few conversations with franchisors who are experiencing a challenge in their franchisee recruitment.

It's slow or we have candidates, but none of them are ready to invest yet.

When asked if they had tried tweaking their recruitment processes, I've been met with uncertainty. We're in the franchising world, which is built on processes after all!

However, why not change the process for a short period of time to see if you get different results?

The changes could be simple like only sending a brochure after the first call or put the discovery day at the end of your recruitment process. Maybe remove the questionnaire that you usually get applicants to fill in or add one in!

You have a solid process that you can go back to if the experiment fails, but at least you will learn something, just like when I tried the bed lift. It was only temporary, but I learnt a lot from the experience.

If it works, happy days!

We all know the saying from Mr Einstein and really I guess that's my point.

Anyway, speaking of trying new things, friend of mine and experienced franchisor Anne-Marie Martin tried TikTok a while ago and it proved to be a massive success, she shares her thoughts in the short video at the end of this newsletter.
