When starting my career in financial services I was ambitious.?I always wanted to progress; however, my achievements were very enough.
?
About 10 years ago things really accelerated in my career, and I lead a senior team for the first time.?This is what I thought I wanted.?However, I massively struggled.
?
Some of my friends became employees, and they would say Tony why can’t you be YOU!!!?I didn’t truly understand at the time what they were getting at, however it is so clear to be now.??I wanted so badly or things to go well, but all I ended up doing was putting massive pressure on myself.???
?
This career progression was turning into a nightmare and I;
?
?Sleepless nights
?Levels of stress I had not encountered before
?Anxiety prior to meetings with senior individuals
?I began to snap with those I cared about
?
Initially, I thought the answer was to settle and not push myself.?I thought that the answer was to not put myself in supposed “stressful situations” …
?
I discovered that the answer was something different altogether.?I found out what was creating the stress.?Deep down, I cared too much about what others thought, and my natural approach was to overthink things.?I would constantly be second-guessing what would happen next, and my mind was in overdrive.?
?
Despite my reservations, I invested in a coach and challenged my limiting beliefs. ??I began to feel so much calmer, and discovered how I had been holding myself back; This helped me too;
?Make decisions without consulting others
?Put myself out there before I felt ready
?Let go and to live in the moment
?If I had a bad day I would get over it, and start afresh tomorrow
?
The answer is not to settle.?The real answer is to confront your challenges and to invest in YOU.??
