The Greater Baltimore Committee Names Jeff Zuback As Organization’s First-Ever Public Safety Data Officer

(Baltimore, Md.) – In his first act as president and chief executive officer of the?Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC), Mark Anthony Thomas announced today the appointment of Jeff Zuback as the organization’s first-ever public safety data officer starting on January 17, 2023. As public safety data officer, Zuback will assess how the Baltimore business community can support the efforts of the Baltimore City government and Baltimore Police Department and partner to decrease crime and improve public safety.

“Public Safety is among the highest priorities for the GBC members and essential to ensuring safe and livable communities are accessible to everyone in the Baltimore region,” said Thomas. “We’re thrilled to bring Jeff to the team. This will immediately strengthen how we’ll engage with the public sector and stakeholders at the frontline of the crisis.”

This new role comes on the heels of the GBC board’s announcement at its annual meeting in May to take on a greater role in ensuring Baltimore City aggressively addresses its continuing challenges with crime and concerns about public safety among residents and the business community. Zuback will use data, research, analysis and partnership development to support the development, implementation and measurement of effective public safety strategies for the organization.

“I am excited to work collaboratively with the business community and city stakeholders to improve public safety outcomes in the Greater Baltimore region through enhanced data transparency and accountability,” said Zuback.

Prior to this appointment, Zuback spent eight years as chief of the Maryland State Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth and Victim Services, where he used data and analysis to manage, analyze and implement programs such as the Violence Prevention Initiative, Medication Assisted Treatment and more. Before that, he served as director of the Maryland Statistical Analysis Center at the Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention, where he managed the center and collected data and research to provide criminal justice-related policy analyses.

Calvin Butler, GBC’s board chair, prioritized the creation of this role and launched the search at GBC’s annual meeting in late May.
