Great Zoom Remains an Ultra-Premium Feature
#Computationalphotography has made it possible to simulate continuous zoom by using only three or four fixed lenses. But not all #smartphones are created equal: despite touting great hardware specifications, very often the quality of the extra lenses does not lead to results as good as the main 1x camera module.?
?
The #DXOMARK Camera v5 test protocol now includes an extensive image quality evaluation over the full #zoomrange, both for ultra-wide and tele focal lengths. We evaluate up to 10 focal lengths for all quality attributes, including artifacts.?
?
Our zoom king is the HONOR Magic5 Pro, which maintains a score above 110 for almost the entire zoom range. It offers a high level of detail from 10 mm to 200 mm. The foldable 三星电子 Galaxy Z Fold 4, which makes a tradeoff on its tele design, shows rapidly decreasing quality. The more affordable smartphones such as vivo X80 Lite 5G show that high-performance zoom remains a specialty of the ultra-premium segment.?

1 年Really great addition to the test protocol. I'm super intrigued to know how do smartphones with true optical zoom compare to the ones with "hybrid zoom", and also is there any way to exclude the computational part when benchmarking (maybe taking RAW pictures)?!
