When it comes to multifamily finance, what a difference a year can make. Last year at this time mortgage rates were 50-75 bps higher and there was a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the fate of the GSEs with the changing of the guard at the FHFA. With the pivot in Fed policy, the drop in treasury yields, and this fall’s announcement of the new 5 quarter GSE scorecard, it is a great time to be a multifamily borrower. With clear direction through 2020 as it relates to production caps and continuing strong multifamily asset performance, the GSEs appetite is strong.
