Great things take time!
A shortcut is the longest path you will ever choose.
You may recollect one of your favourite childhood stories that carried one of life’s most important lessons- the hare and the tortoise. The narrative of that story shall remain the ‘narrative’ of this newsletter too. What better way to drive home the point than start with a quote?
As the image says- “If you resist the reality of slow progress, five years from now you'll simply be five years older and still looking for a shortcut.”- James Clear
In our eagerness to succeed, we generally tend to ignore the importance of time. Time is an important ingredient in all things transformational! If we look at the diamond, time transformed the erstwhile piece of coal. Food aficionados will appreciate the importance of time as the slow flame gradually adds flavour to the preparation. Whisky connoisseurs will agree that fine whisky gets its taste as it ages in the barrel. Therefore, as Beverly Sills said it- “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.”
Is time a passive ingredient in the recipe for success? Absolutely not! We offer an opinion that you may have always known but never articulated- time is a part of an active ingredient! Coal does not become diamond by just existing over a significant period of time! It is the intense pressure over prolonged periods of time that leads to the metamorphosis of the ‘black rock’. Therefore, the active ingredient of success is- time and effort. We are intentionally referring to time and effort as a single ingredient as one without the other does not lead to a change!
Since ancient times, man has celebrated the beautiful creations that honoured the ‘active ingredient’. When one visits Egypt, the Pyramids will definitely be on their itinerary. Motor enthusiasts cherish vintage vehicles! Even a rapidly transitioning industry like fashion has a ‘timeless’ collection! Then how did we as a race willingly make a choice to prefer instant gratification over delayed gratification?! Our future generations will not forgive us for this grave mistake. “Hurry breeds worry.”?
The leaders of various institutions have a very important task meted out to them- embrace technology without compromising on principles that have withstood the test of time. Delayed gratification is one such example. Instant gratification is a curse but that is a topic for another day. This trend of instant gratification, unfortunately, seems to be creeping into the method of shaping future leaders!
“Coaching is the future of leadership.”- Subash CV. Sadly, many leaders are future proofing themselves by sprinting in a marathon! You may finish the race but you may not accomplish the intention with which you actually started ‘running’!

When the curriculum makes it amply clear that you need to build the coaching muscle, how can you speed up the classroom training? We now see speed certifications- 7 days ICF coach training, 15 days coach training! This is shocking! Unfortunately, many aspiring coaches fall prey to the timeline and succumb to the temptation. However, the market is very brutal- it does not care for emotions, your journey or the likes; quality alone matters. If you crash into coaching, the market will ensure that you crash out of coaching too!
Why would you like to be a rajma chawal (an Indian favourite) from a fast food joint when you can be Maa ka rajma chawal (Mother's preparation of the Indian favourite)?
