Live stage dramas have been part of this world’s most important and memorable diversions for as long as there has been recorded history.
It has always thrived in Rockland County in many manifestations, many venues, one is the 79 year old Antrim Playhouse on Spock Rock Road in Suffern/Wesley Hills, easily reachable without having to cross any river bridges or pay for parking.
This week-end’s Play at this jewel of a theatre will mark another milestone. It’s an Play about the last hours in the of a Protestant Frenchman who gave his life to free Catholic Ireland from England’s anti-Catholic repressive choking yoke.
It’s about Theobald Wolfe Tone. It is very riveting and emotional. It’s about patriotism, national freedom and the prices that some will pay for both. He was an Irish Republican and rebel who sought to overthrow English rule in Ireland and who led a French military force to Ireland during the insurrection of 1798. “THE FINAL DAYS OF WOLFE TONE”.
The Play runs from Thursday to Sunday and the tickets are only $25 in an intimate setting. This is the 79th season for our local “little theater In the woods”.
The Play launches Rockland’s Year of the celebration of the Centennial Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Uprising in Ireland. Reserve your tickets today [ www.antrimplayhouse.com ]
And Since the Play is being produced by Margaret/Pete Fitzpatrick & Eileen Murphy of the Irish Arts Forum, a 501[c]3 not-for-profit community organization, ALL the profits will go to these charities:
The “BREST BUDDIES” Avon Walk for breast cancer, Camp Venture, Homes For Heroes, Juvenile Diabetes AND the Pearl River School of Irish Music and the 1916 Commemoration.
And by the way, Neil O’Sullivan and I are planning the 25th Anniversary, our Silver Anniversary, “Murphy-O’Sullivan Pub Tour of Ireland during the February school break of 2017. We expect we will spend 2 days in the North of Ireland and 3 in the Free Republic of Ireland.
