As a result of reading and analyzing the Global Skills Gap Report 2022, I thought I would come up with a fresh news article. Sorry folks, I've had a busy weekend with family. The weather is nice, though. Get cracking on the article - I'll do Jimbo.
What Are The Top Skills in Demand
Like me, you've probably read a number of reports, including LinkedIn's working and learning report. Although bright and inclusive, the report mainly focuses on the learning and development sector under corporate learning. I have analyzed the coursea (learning platform) to get a much better sample of 100 million learners - those who are learning or have started a course.
Here is a slice of what employers want and need when it comes to top skills. Further, I have outlined growth sectors and the need for more emotional intelligence skills to be taught in schools. Thus, self-leadership is essential for the future of work.
What Countries Are Doing The Best To Drive these Skills
From my analsis top is for sure Saudia Arabia - having reviewd their current trajectory and there national edcuation strategy they are simply innovating faser than any other country in the world.
What Make Suadia Arabia Innovate So Well.
In my research, I have been breaking down this question for many years.
When I applied for a teaching position in Dubai once (middle east education institute), they were modeling the best education systems from all over the world into one.
Now let's look at what Saudi Arabia is doing - let's start with digital literacy:
"As the kingdom transitions to a more sustainable economy, it is building on recent successes: In 2020, the World Economic Forum reported that Saudi Arabia was among the top 10 countries globally for digital literacy."

When it comes to the supply chain of learning and performance, digital literacy is everything. Supply chain of learning and performance = speed and quality of knowledge acquisition between educational paths. Furthermore, it is the job pool that can create complete digital literacy - or that is needed.
Also, because the Kingdom is ranked so high for innovative education models, their Human Capability Development Program, a part of Vision 2030, gives them an advantage over any other country. I feel at this point as a global thought leader that Europe's and the USA's top business schools cannot match Saudi Arabia's innovation.
How the West and other nations can catch up with Saudi Arabia's skills innovation.
2nrd Place for Innovation in skills and educational development Spain
"Spain is an entrepreneurial nation on the rise."

When taught and promoted correctly, entrepreneurship can boost any economy. Here are a few of their growth skills; Fintech, Blockchain, Resilence, Data Analysis, and Negotiation. That's a lot of digital proficiency skills. Combined with the opening up of the economy, Spain's GDP could be pretty decent. There is a lot to be determined by how the government rolls out more entrepreneurial-style education and closes the gap between what employers need in terms of skills and what is required in terms of creating jobs. While having a solid national skills supply chain is one thing, securing the funding needed to create business growth under global supply shortages is another. In many ways, Spain has a pretty good footing on the innovation skills ladder, whereas countries like the UK, which are entrepreneurial in many ways, lack the skills alignment between educational institutions and employers.
The Number One Skill All Countries need to think about - Critial Thinking
Having previously taught critical thinking skills to higher education students and aligned with clear global skills development needs, critical thinking requires a revised curriculum. Across all business sectors, it must be implemented with a research mindset. How can critical thinking shape tomorrow's workplace? What are some of the key principles of critical thinking that educational leaders need to start integrating into all courses? In as much as emotional intelligence research never stops, critical thinking domains should not be excluded from such research. In the past, researchers have traditionally focused on defining creativity to improve business problem solving skills. Creativity is not the same as innovation, in my opinion. Effectively, they are two different domains and require different approaches for skill development in education and the workplace. There will be more on that debate in another article.
The Future of the Great Reskill
There will certainly be challenges in fixing inflation issues and supply chain issues linked to the war in Ukraine, as well as cross-referencing all of those market behaviors to the Great Reskill. Innovation is necessary to not only build a faster supply chain of learning and performance, but also to enhance the level of skills proficiency - like data analysis. My top priority in schools and universities today would be to improve the emotional intelligence of students. Government entrepreneurship and digital literacy will be able to come together much faster after that period. In addition, governments should act with caution when building technical skills academies. Despite knowing the future is data science and machine learning as well as top human skills such as self-leadership, we fail to bring them together. Moreover, let's start being more inclusive in the quality of skills and how they are distributed among educational leaders and providers. We won't be able to reskill as a planet until the middle of the decade unless we are ready.
