Is the great resignation really what is being called for?

If you're reading this, chances are you're in that tricky spot many of us have found ourselves in through the last few years of the "great resignation" era.

Deciding it is just simpler to walk away then to be the voice of change.

Who’s listening anyways?

You used to be passionate about your job, but now, you feel like you're stuck in a never-ending loop, and it's left you feeling invisible and undervalued. I've been there too, and I want you to know that there's a way to change this narrative.

This article is all about transforming your relationship within an organization, based on what you DO have control over, especially for established professional women who are seeking to reignite their love for their work.

Let me share my a little of my own story. I was in your shoes not too long ago. I was working in a high level position I once loved, but over time, I began to really feel unappreciated, undervalued, and like I was just going through the motions. It felt like I was stuck in a never-ending Groundhog Day, and I could no longer feel or see the value in what I was doing. And yet here's the thing: after dedicating three years to my own self-development, I have come to realize the key to change wasn't quitting; it was about changing my mindset and how I communicated with my superiors so that I was empowering myself to be that change I so desired to see.

Here are 3 steps I now realize I could have spoken up in terms of my position:

  1. Stop self-negotiating before we even speak up.

First things first – you are not invisible, and your voice matters more than you think - leaders are not always equipped themselves to voice this. The problem is, it's not always easy to express your thoughts effectively without our own limiting beliefs about our worth and level of confidence rearing it’s ugly head into the mix . And yet, this is where you have the power to make a change. Your unique experiences, insights, and ideas are precious assets to the organization that can help you and the teams you lead, grow and evolve. You want to learn how to communicate your thoughts with confidence and clarity so you don’t avoid even having these courageous conversations. Too often we talk ourselves into thinking it will not be worth it before we even try…It’s time to try.

2. Make friends with the NO.

One big hurdle many of us face is the fear of how our bosses will react to our feedback or ideas and waive it off with a generalized NO. This fear often leads to silence and complacency, which only deepens our sense of stagnation. But here's the secret: you don't have to carry the weight of your superiors' reactions on your shoulders.

When you share your perspective, remember that you're not responsible for how they respond. Focus on the importance of your message and the potential for positive change. By letting go of the attachment to immediate results, you free yourself from the burden of anticipating negative responses. Trust that you've planted a seed for future growth, even if it doesn't seem like it's making an impact right away.

3. Trust in the Long-Term Game…not everything is 0-100 real quick.

Turning things around in your work life isn't a quick fix. Don't expect immediate changes or instant results. Sometimes we need to not only plant the seeds, we also need to nurture and foster them in our powerful and persistent manner. The key is to have faith in the long-term game. Consistently sharing your insights and perspectives can shape the direction of your organization over time, and truly does create change, sometimes for the overall organizations, and even more often for the dynamic of paving the way for others to see they to have a voice that has a space to be heard.

Your input, even when it feels like no one is listening, has the potential to influence your workplace culture positively. The seeds you plant today may lead to a more fulfilling and dynamic work environment tomorrow. It requires patience and persistence, but your efforts will eventually pay off if you continue to be the champion for what you know is best for everyone involved.

Conclusion?

The "great resignation" doesn't have to be your only option. If you're a professional woman who’s always loved being part of the results, yet perhaps are feeling stagnant and unfulfilled at work, you have the power to reignite your passion. Remember, you're not invisible, and your voice is valued. Learn to express your thoughts, share without the fear of reactions, and trust in the long-term game. It all starts with a shift in your mindset and the way you communicate with your superiors. By doing this, you can rediscover your love for your job and find renewed fulfillment in your career. Don't walk away just yet; instead, step into your power and make a difference.

Your mindset Maverick,
